I've spent the last 3+ yrs trying to figure out what kind/brand/number of windows I can replace in my 40-yr-old home. All of them need to be replaced BADLY.

I had a local guy I've know for years give me an estimate 18 months ago for all of them. A month later, Mom had a horrible accident, had to be here 2+ months rehabbing, etc., and I put the windows on hold til now.

I phoned the guy recently to say I'm ready to do some windows; he came over and gave me new pricing for the 2 windows I was planning to start with. They're huge double windows. He KNEW I was just talking about those 2 double windows.

I honestly wanted to start with one very small bathroom window just to make double darn sure I liked that window, but figured he'd balk at doing just one tiny window, so I got the quote for the big ones.

Phoned him this week to say I'm ready to do this but had a couple of questions. He didn't phone back. I phoned him today to say I'm ready but when he found out I was only going to do one of the huge windows so I can get that one room totally "done" all at once, since I need to have it painted, new carpet, etc., he wasn't interested.

He acted sort of snarky - bottom line: he won't do just that double window. Not worth his time/effort to do just one, even knowing I'm eventually going to be replacing all 18 others.

What?? That window would take 3 hrs TOPS to do, and you're making $$$$$ profit, it's on the first floor, easy to get in/out, etc.??

My mom's having the same problem, only just for handyman stuff. Screen on her screened-in patio came apart, she needs it fixed, can't open her patio door to let fresh air in because of bugs, critters, cats, etc. can get into the patio and her home.

In my next life, I'm coming back as a handywoman.
