After reading this I figured out I'd better stand over my top loader and ask the LORD to keep it well and running.

I remember years ago when we spent 1 month traveling all over Europe. Of course traveling with a husband and 3 (2 teenagers and a 6 year old) daughters, we often had to wash clothes.

Finding a laundromat wasn't easy. When we did they were all front loaders. I've always had a top loader! I would stand in front of that stupid machine and watch it. It would go for 2 minutes and stop! Then it would go again....and stop!

We had to take something called a "Hydrofoil" (probably wrong word) from Dover, England to Brussels. Here I am watching this stupid machine go...stop...go (well you get the idea) and the Hydrothingy is about to take off!

When we finally got back home to the states, I had to throw away the clothes. They were dull looking and just had a stinky smell.

I can't say it was the fault of the washer....but I suspect that it is.

When I read where someone said the government stuck their business in my business I knew immediately we were doomed.

Everything the government touches turns to mess! Why in the world are they messing in my business.

This is just one more example I am no longer a Democrat or Republican. I have no party. There are a lot of people like me out here.

Just think, the government messing with my washing machine. I think I have the right to determine how hot I want to wash my underwear in.

Forgot to say the past 3 washers I've had (and the one I now have) are Matag washers.

We also have a Maytag Bravos top loader, about 3 years old. It doesn't have the old school tall agitator with 'wings' to shift clothes around, but has a very short post. I haven't had any trouble with how it cleaned delicates. I do miss the manual controls! The drum is large and accommodates quite a large load as well. Of course, we replaced a 25 year old Kenmore- so anything would be quite a step up! One thing that took me awhile to adjust to was the small amount of water usage, hardly enough to agitate the clothes (the washer has a glass top). But all comes out great. I can also adjust spin speeds, which I've found is nice.

I do leave the top opened when it isn't in use, just helps it dry out thoroughly between washes. Never have a problem with odors.

I always have washed necessary things in hot but rinsed with cold or warm. Just cold rinsing wouldn't bother me personally but it is too bad the choices won't be there.

We bought a Whirlpool Cabribo top loader about 3 years ago and I am very happy with it. My husband wanted the front load because it looked new and modern, I didn't. It seemed that putting in and taking clothes out of the washer would be a pain. Since I do the laundry, I got my way. There are several different settings also. It has all that I need. My mother has a front load, not by choice, and she hates it.

Replaced my old top loading with a Speedqueen. They have a much longer warrantee for the drum. They use them in laundrymats. Works well...have had no problems....not fancy but just a basic washer.

I too have a basic top loading agitating washer. I always need to throw in things after it starts and I occasionally dye things and I have to open the washer to check color when they're soaking. I use all temperatures of water, different for different things, no hot water if you want it, that's ridiculous.

I helped my aunt pick this one out and now I am getting one for myself.

I love the lack of an agitator in the middle. Quilts wash up great. Plus I found that it spins so efficiently, drying time was way reduced.

I will only buy front load washers! My first front loader was a Maytag Neptune in 2000 - I still have it! I put it in our vacation home! I have NEVER had a problem with it! No musty odor, no service calls, Nothing! My husband bought the washer for our primary home when we put the Neptune in our vacation home! It was a Maytag top loader, also a Neptune! It did not have an agitator, it had what were called Paddles! The first service call was less than a year after he bought it! It constantly went off balance & shook itself to death! We just replaced it with a Samsung front loader - Love it!!! I do not use fabric softener - I use white vinegar as a softener! This may be the reason I have never had an odor from my original Maytag front loader! Also, the white vinegar completely removes any residue from clothes!

I like my old top loader. My older sister has the latest and greatest front-loader washer and dryer. I think they are a little temperamental. She calls them the evil twins.

I replaced my Kenmore with a no-frills Speed Queen. This is the brand they use at my hairdresser's so I figured it would have to be reliable to handle all the salon washing.
