Yeah, I'm curious, too, as to what IS "in vogue" and will not scare off any house guests that may need to use my facilities.
Anyway, I'm genuinely curious for those who dislike the "framed" curtains - what do you use? A glass tub enclosure? A curtain pulled across to hide the tub? Or a curtain pulled tightly to one side, leaving the tub open to view?
ETA: My guest bath's only window is frosted and centered over the tub. I dislike shower doors (because of our hard water) and "frame" it to let in natural light. Curtains (dry clean only) are removed several times a year and freshened with Dryel, along with the plastic inner curtain replaced before showering guests arrive (maybe once a year or so).

It's HER house...she should decorate it the way SHE likes it, not to please visitors!

I love lace, ruffles and florals. It doesn't have to be Victorian though, it can just be a country look. I have ruffled curtains in all of my bedrooms now, and lace in my dining room, but my home is more country. My son in law always says that my home just feels "homey". For me, that's a compliment.

Our master bath is also "out of vogue", but by 15 years or so rather than 25 or 30 (if it matters). It has gold-tone fixtures, white ceramic tile, cultured marble countertops, a leaded glass window over the jacuzzi, white cabinetry, and floral wallpaper on a dark green background. I know gold-tone and traditional floral wallpaper are some of the things that make those young home shoppers on HGTV's House Hunters declare they'd have to do a "complete gut job". Ah well........I'm kinda old, and I still kinda like it. Everything is in decent condition and in classic taste, so we haven't seen a need to renovate. I totally think people should decorate their homes as they like them, and not according to what's in style or what others may think.
We have the Jacuzzi tub and a separate shower with glass enclosure, so we don't have to worry about shower curtains or enclosure for the tub.

Another thought (from an insomniac)...
Maybe I'm older than dirt and off-base, but wasn't half the fun in purchasing your new home (when young), using your imagination and slowly redecorating it to your taste? I mean, I wasn't thrilled with some decorating aspects of my pre-owned homes (the baby blue bathroom fixtures in my first home come to mind). I saw beyond that even back in 1981 and re-did it in pale blue, chocolate brown and ivory.
I didn't expect every aspect of a home to be so specific to my tastes. I look at the "bones" of the house (location, layout, upkeep, "hard goods", etc.) Heck, I once bought a condo completely carpeted in mauve (out of date at the time) and just calculated carpet replacement in my head when making the offer.
Reminds me of a fairly low priced wonderfully "boned" home when we moved to FL. It was pink.
Not the outside, but everything in the home was pink. Carpeting, paint, bathroom fixtures, even the kitchen cabinets (must have been custom) were pink!
A previous owner's (easily replaceable) shower curtains wouldn't even hit my radar.

PKB, your bathroom is gorgeous! Truly! I've been a decorator my practically my whole life and the number one rule of decorating your home is do what makes your heart happy! I too just remodeled my very small guest bath and I too used curtains on either side of the tub. I have a small window above the tub that was important to me to allow as much sunlight in and it also opens up the room. I also have nice tile in that shower that I like to be able to see. Keeping the tub clean isn't a biggie for me either.
My bath, with the "old fashioned curtains" on either side of the tub looks beautiful. It makes MY heart happy!
Thanks for sharing your photo with us. I love the molding on the top too btw!
