Oh NO the dreaded wind chimes!! Yrs ago at a different home we had just moved in for about 3weeks my next door neighbor suddenly puts of these horrible wind chimes...on the side of her home that was outside of her kitchen window but right next to my bedroom and my newborns window. After about 1 week of pure torture...I told her how they were keeping us up at night and waking up my baby all night. I asked her if she could move them to the other side of her home (which is away from our open bedroom windows) thankfully she wasn't upset at all. She told me she hated them and that her FIL made them and her H put them up. They were these super long pipes....on strings with bells and some other clanging swinging thing. Every week they would come back again...her spouse would put them back outside LOL! she would take them down LOL!
Finally thankfully I never saw/heard them again. I loath wind chimes....I am with the poster if you are going to put something up that makes noise put it in your bedroom with a fan blowing on it so you can hear it all night long....keep it to yourself!

It never ceases to amaze me how neighbors just don't seem to care how their life style infringes on their neighbors....we have a barking dog that the owners just seem to ignore, neighbors that don't know how to use a weed trimmer......most neighbors are ok but those few make the neighbor hood look bad, I feel your pain

Did you say the person who lives there is dying? If so, I'd try to put up with it in case the sound of the chimes gives that person comfort.

Oh my, I so agree! I personally like deeper tones so most windchimes get on my last nerve. Same with singers, low timber (Cher) and I enjoy, higher timber (Dolly Parton) and I don't enjoy. Where we live, windchimes should be outlawed because of all the wind.... the wind can blow so hard they can end up in the next state, but I agree that consideration from both sides is the key. ![]()

I should not laugh, but some people just don't seem to have a clue that what they are doing is totally annoying. The neighbors across the street from me have an upstairs balcony and she hung wind chimes out there that drove me completely crazy!! I told my husband I was going to tell them to take it down and put it somewhere around back, well anyhow, he knows how I can get, so he talked to her husband about how we could constantly hear them inside our house. Well, obviously he can word things a lot nicer than me and they were taken down that day. I literally have no patience obviously... hahaha...
If you do not say anything though, nothing will change. Just keep thinking
clunk, dunk, thunk ... over and over ...

That's exactly what I was going to mention! I love Brooke Shields as the trashy nextdoor neighboor in "The Middle." That particular episode is hilarious!

When it comes to issues with inconsiderate neighbors I could write a book! Now wind chimes are one annoyance I haven't had to deal with ~ yet. This thread gave me a REALLY good idea of how to get back at the neighbors for all the grief I have to endure, but with my luck, they would love them and put up about 50 of them, lol!!!

I love wind chimes and appreciate all tones. I have 3 hung around my house, but no one lives around us. I would not think of hanging wind chimes if I lived in a neighborhood.

I won't say anything for one reason: the person who lives there and enjoys them won't be with us for much longer. So....there it is.
I wasn't sure who it was until recently. In the meantime, I went through the HOA docs and windchimes are allowed so, it is something that neighbors have to deal with. In any event, I'll just ignore them.

I honor you for being the bigger person here.
Sounds like the neighbor has enough to deal with (I'm assuming you mean they are possibly passing away, and not just moving).
Either way, it is something we don't see much of today, someone knowing that this will pass and simply have the grace and patience to wait it out, rather than create a fuss and have to have their way.
