Need suggestions and opinions on new washer

My washer has died. I'm torn in what brand and style to buy. I can't decide on a front loader or a regular washer. When we bought the one we have only 7 years ago, we were told it was the best of the best. I think the company quit making them soon after they were so bad. I've had trouble with it since I bought it. Can anyone give me suggestions on what's the best in terms of durability and just a good machine (I don't really care about bells and whistles)?
