Need some attractive wood hand-holds!

Hello, all! I have arthritis and find it increasingly hard to maneuver in our strange and wonderful home. There are three different spots where there are 3 or 4 steps and nothing to hold onto. I have some of those rather homely handle things around our bathtub but would rather have attractive (wooden, maybe) ones about 8 - 10" long in the other visible places of our home.

I don't know where to start, and we don't live near metropolitan areas where I could visit some unusual-type store. I don't know what to call them, either! Any help for me would be hugely appreciated! Adele
