My questions about this is these--

do you like this area? 

will you use it alot?

will you change the counter top and backsplash?

can you use that area for a different purpose? 

I like the different color for that type of thing myself and if it is an asset to your kitchen and has a useful purpose, I would doll the thing up

Make the choices that you think will work best for you. My only observation is this all sounds like an awful lot of gray, even given the possibility of varying shades...

I wouldn't paint a thing until my countertops were installed and then go from there. My only advice is do what your gut is telling you and don't listen to anyone. If you wan5 your cabinets all one color, go for it. It's what makes you happy.

I like contrast, especially light against dark.

But do whatever pleases you - who cares what others think.
