Re: Need input on countertop type please

Granite is my choice hands down.  Have had formica and Corian in previous houses we have lived.  Granite beats them by a mile.  Easy to maintain, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. durable in other words. A natural stone that is beautiful. Many granites do not need sealing and should not be sealed.  We have had our granite counters for over 25 years. No chips, scrapes or scratches. Looks beautiful still.

@sarahpanda  Another fan of laminate. I prefer it. I've not jumped on the stone or stone-like bandwagon. Laminate is versatile, there are dozens of options, it's durable and affordable, meaning you're not stuck with it virtually forever, but can change it out for a minimal kitchen redo, if you so desire. My second choice might well be real butcher block. Popular or not, I'm afraid I'm just not on board with the heavy looking stone or fabricated stone options.

Re: Need input on countertop type please

Corian.  We had a contractor remodel our kitchen two years ago.  We picked Corian counters and have been very pleased with them.  They are easy to maintain and clean and look good.  We could not justify the cost of granite or other top-of-the-line products. We are getting up in years and will probably be in this house for ten more years, so we did not need granite or other long-lasting materials.  It all depends on your budget, your long-term plans and what is pleasing to you as far as looks go.  Good luck and enjoy spending time preparing food and meals in your new kitchen.

@maximillian , not all Corian is less expensive than granite.  I did a bathroom remodel and the Corian I chose was more $ than granite.  Depends what you choose.

A few years ago, I had a soft, warm,  green quartz installed for my counters. It is beautiful, easy to clean and I love the color.

I hope you buy the counters that you love, because that is what matters.

Re: Need input on countertop type please

I had laminate for over 20 years and when price is deciding factor, there are very good options and colors now.  In all those years had only spot where I dropped knife and it made mark.  The contractor at the time had made good advice when I chose top.  He said to not get solid color.  A marbled effect worked well for me.

Eight years ago we did a kitchen remodel and chose quartz.  Very happy with it.

We put quartz in when we remodeled and I do love it, folks always ask what it is. The only thing I would change is the pattern...it is a 'speckle' and I can never tell if there are crumbs on it! And I have lost items on that counter more than once!!!!
