Need help with mattress topper, sheets, blankets

Just informed family will be visiting  before Christmas and spending one night. Looking at Black Friday deals and very confused. Have a full sleeper sofa and will need mattress topper and sheet set that will fit the memory foam mattress. Will need to purchase two twin air beds for the grand kids, plus sheets , blankets spreads or something better. Excited about family visit but concerned about bedding purchase and cost. We have already sent money  for the family Christmas but understand that the grand kids (12 and 7)  will need gifts under our tree. I live in Georgia and so far the coldest night temperature mid 30’s. I know everyone is extremely busy but any suggestions greatly appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving , Southern Bee

Air beds will leak and need patches which do not stay on so I trashed 1 and never looked back.

Also many people get sea sick on air beds because you feel like you are rolling.

My suggestion is book them at a safe well recommended nearby motel/hotel and pick them up early and spend  time with them .

That may be a more sensible cost effective alternative than having them stay by you and your having to pay and store everything you mentioned.

Enjoy your guests!

@GiantsLover: Thanks for suggestions. I do not drive and DH not driving due to memory issues. He really wants the family to spend the night. Southern Bee

A nice motel close by would be the way to go on this since they are only staying one night. They can spend all their time with you and enjoy good food and family time. Then everyone gets a good nights rest and you will have spent a lot less on a couple of motel rooms than you would on all new bedding and air mattresses. They will probably appreciate you treating them to a motel room where they can have privacy also.

Kids the age of your grandchildren don’t mind sleeping on the floor. Do you have sleeping bags or old blankets to be the “bed”?  No sheets would be needed.

If they are spending only one night, I wouldn’t spend a lot on the sleeper sofa bedding. A thicker mattress pad that just lays on the mattress would work. Try JC Penney’s or Kohl’s online for sheets and blankets.

I bet you are so excited to have them!

eta, do you have friends or neighbors who would lend you some bedding?

A motel is a great idea!  Why buy bedding, air beds, blankets, etc. for one night?

Try to borrow cots, sleeping bags, air bed, etc. from a friend or neighbor if they must stay with you.

Remember being a kid, we slept on the floor when we needed to ,pile some blankets up ,and let them sleep there, adults can sleep on your couch.

One more thought—QVC has several Berkshire blankets for under $40.

@SouthernBee  How sweet!

Something we did as kids during sleepovers is pull the cushions off the couch.  Air beds didn't exist yet so if you are going to pull them off anyway for the bed, why not have the kids sleep on that?

Or if you can not find a cheap air bed, I know when my nieces were little they got sleeping bags which were really cheap at Walmart or Target.  Kids are pretty easy going and like the camp out effect so I wouldn't worry too much about them.  I live in GA too and it's usually not bitter cold around Christmas.

As for blankets and such, they are all over the place cheap if you need to grab a couple.  For kids, even the throws will do.  I am not sure where in GA you are but I have seen nice dirt cheap blankets and throws at TJ Maxx and At Home recently.  I actually just bought some really nice $10 ones from Target and Walmart that are going to be Christmas gifts for my nieces and nephew which is a great idea come to think of it!

Steal my gift and buy the kids a nice blanket for them to use while they are there and tell them it's an extra gift for them to take home with them.  I bought my nephew a soccer one, and my nieces got a mermaid, unicorn, and one got the old fashioned cheetah along with some beauty gifts.

Just some thoughts if they work for you.  Enjoy your family.
