If you can move to a quieter, more secure neighborhood, I would do it in a heartbeat. I'd even talk to the police about a neighborhood before you move and look at crime statistics if you can before making the move.

It isn't worth living where this is tolerated and overlooked if you can afford to move. Where you live is one of the most important aspects of our health and happiness and overall well being.

I've lived here for over 25 years and never had a problem except for dog dodo. I never deserved this n this has only happened since these irresponsible animals moved in next door. Then the loud music, garbage everywhere, dog dodo, mirrors, and now garage door. Geez.

I can only depend on the law to show up and take a report and it falls on a dusty desk or filthy hard drive ---

Re: Need Help Neighbor Kids Vandalism

In Savannah, Georgia there have been 124 shootings and 84 rape/robbery cases since the first of the year. In EVERY one of these cases, the mother is on TV saying what a good boy so and so was and how he went to church every Sunday (and even though he had a rap sheet a mile long) had never been in any trouble. Yeah, right.

My husband and I are old. We were raised during a time when you went to school, you went to church, you respected your elders and if you misbehaved you got a spanking. We raised our children the same way. I'm not sure what has happened to our society, but it is very troubling.

Re: Need Help Neighbor Kids Vandalism

We are surrounded by bad neighbors...which is why, if we ever have enough money, we want to live out in the country, and with a large enough acreage that we can't see neighbors in any direction!

On one side of us, we have neighbors we had to bring to court over their yip-yip dog...a mini pincher that barked 24/7. IT became so unnerving I couldn't even go out in our gardens to weed without shaking! Well, after several warnings and 2 times in court...bringing a video of the dog barking for hours at a stretch, we won! Either they had to get rid of the dog, or put a no-bark collar on.

Our neighbors to our north have delinquent kids...period. Ages range from pre-teen to early 20's (adults) who haven't moved out yet. They play in their backyard and throw balls into our yard....damaging our plants/bushes, house, air conditioning unit and nearly clocked me in the head with a softball!!! DH and I have had several 'talks with them/their parents...like talking to a brick wall. We are also expected to return the balls they throw over...their property. We have had the cops over on more than one occasion...nothing gets done...just another report filed.

Neighbors to our east fed feral cats one Spring a few years ago that lived in a neighbors evergreen bushes across the street. They had their own cats, so I'm sure it started out 'innocently' feeding a feral cat or two, which turned into 13 by Fall that year. Well, picture this...

The cats lived in the evergreen bushes across the street...got fed all their meals next door to our east, then our back and front yards were their litter box!!! AGH!!!

So, when we tried to talk sense to our neighbors to our east...explaining if they keep feeding the feral cats, they will multiply to a number they couldn't afford to feed. We hoped that logic would work and they would listen to reason. Seriously...13 cats after 2 litters...none even 'fixed'...how many would be around next Spring and have their own litters...and by the following Fall...OM*G!

So, DH and I had to take matters into our own hands. We wound up trapping 13 cats and 2 HUGE possums and ALL were picked up by the Humaine Society!

We also can't keep anything that isn't tied down in our front yard because it will be stolen. The last time I decorated for Christmas was 5 years ago. We have it on our security cameras a bunch of neighborhood kids...about 11-16 pulling out our lit candy canes and running off with them!!!

The next day I go back to Walmart and get replacements. You know what? Those kids are so bold as brass, they came back to get them again!!! Thank goodness DH was reviewing our security camera footage. He yelled at me to run out the front door since I was in the livingroom watching the tv. This time I was able to run outside and scare the #$%^ out of them and they ran like there was no tomorrow! After that, I wound up staying outside in the freezing cold and bringing in all our outdoor Christmas decorations and just last year finally gave them to Goodwill...knowing that as long as we live here, I can never decorate outside again!

Oh, but that's not all...

We have kids that live down the street that LOVE to use our driveway to ride their bikes, skateboards, etc on. We tell them not to, and they still do. We tell their parents we don't want to be sued if they get hurt on our property. You know what their parents say? They are just being kids, let them have fun...your such a B*, etc.

Seriously?! What is up with folks...absolutely maddening sometimes!

OMG! What has happened to this world? Each generation has less and less consideration for anyone else but themselves...

When I grew up, nobody needed to tell me when I was a kid to stay off of other's property...

If I/we had a dog that upset a neighbor in anyway, we would try and correct the situation (we also would never put up with our own dog barking extended periods so wouldn't have the problem of neighbors complaining...Geesh!)...

We also wouldn't feed feral cats...

If we had children we would let them know right from wrong...like making them apologize if they bothered the neighbors, etc. and learn their lesson etc.

What happened to 'being neighborly"? Looking out for each other?

Nowadays, parents side with their kids no matter what they do...and there is no discipline other than *time outs* {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Ok...*steps off my soapbox*

Susan Louise,

I don't know how you live with that stress. I know that I would sell that house so fast and move it would not be funny. I'm too old for that kind of stress and so is my husband.

It makes me sad to hear that you are having to live like that.

Re: Need Help Neighbor Kids Vandalism

It is like anything else, you can't run from it. No matter where you move to, you run the risk that somebody will move in next door and cause problems. Stand your ground and ride it out and hopefully they will move or the kids will grow up and leave home.

In the meantime, motion lights, car alarms (I'd use a garden hose LOL), and security cameras will at least make you feel like you are doing something about it and not helpless and defenseless. Maybe a speaker with police radio you can play if you hear them close by.

Once when our daughter was still in school, we had every car up and down our street get their tires slashed one night, except ours. Had she not been home with us the whole night I would have thought it was because she was a party to it LOL! Only thing the cops could figure is because we are the only ones with a yard light and a big german shepherd that spent a lot of time lying out in the front yard on his rope. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}
