Re: NORTHERN CONNECTICUT HOUSE

Taking another look. There's just something so enticing about a classic home... Loving the fireplaces, that staircase, the moldings, transoms and that kitchen, well, other than the banquette, table and backless stools. I'd prefer a pretty table and chairs... Still, what gorgeous finishing elements this home has...

Oh, my -- the way that mural in the alcove wraps ever so slightly onto the wall behind the fireplace is pure artistry.

@Oznell  Simply stunning! The dining room and sunroom knocks me out. The wallpaper in the dining room is exquisite, as well as a touch of whimsy and intrigue.

I spent a few minutes looking and looking at these pictures. Just delightful.

Thanks for another of your great posts. Smiley Happy

The sinuous lines of that bannister grabbed my attention, along with other gracious architectural elements in this entryway.

Look at this detail.  The wood is walnut, and has taken a gorgeous polish!    Edited to add:  My mistake-- it is mahogany.

Now, this appears to be a smallish sitting room/library off the entry.  Something about it appeals to me so much-- it's not overstuffed, yet appears well furnished and cozy.  Love the painting, the gorgeous mantle, the inviting silver tea service.

How great would it be to read here and take tea.

Rooms like this always remind me of a certain, memorable movie scene-- remember in Hitchcock's "Marnie",  when Sean Connery brings Tippi Hedren home to meet dear old Dad for the first time?  It was a vaguely Georgian house, I think, in horsey countryside.  This room to me has the same feeling as the room where they took tea, and jealous Diane Baker looked daggers at Tippi...

The more formal living room, with its lovely paneling.  Very nice, but that first sitting room above is my favorite.

Those fab windows give out onto such stunning views.

Creamy dining room, replete with antiques.

Stunning wall detail.

Butler's pantry looking back to dining room.  Floors here are black walnut.

The kitchen merges seamlessly with this charming hearth-centered sitting area, and the breakfast nook beyond.

Views at breakfast.

This warm neutral bedroom wall color is a nice counterpoint to the cool blue and white fabric.  One thing I like about the 'Home Bunch' site is they often give the paint colors and other resources.  This color is "Luminaire" by Benjamin Moore.

This bedroom is in "Palladian Blue",  a beautiful robin's egg blue historical paint color, also by B. Moore.

Mudroom with Dutch door.   Floor is blue stone.

Houses on this larger scale tend not to appeal to me as much as smaller, more intimate ones, but this one had such a very nice spirit--  seems so liveable.  And many of the decorating principles inside are adaptable to any size abode, I think.

@Oznell

If I could own that house, every item in it except the clothing and its location, I would be happy.  The decor fits my idea of perfect decor and the home design is very, very wonderful.  I just would not want to live in Connecticut.  Nowhere that there are cold winters and lots of snow.  Georgia is far enough north for these old cold, arthritic bones.

Re: NORTHERN CONNECTICUT HOUSE

Stunning home, but something about the items in the mudroom made me wonder if it's a "museum" home, open to the public?  Those things seem staged and are from a different era.

I could certainly live there, if someone else was doing the cleaning and upkeep.  Beautiful views as well.

Re: NORTHERN CONNECTICUT HOUSE

Very impressive home.  The paint colors are so pretty & I like much of the furnishings.  There are some rooms/items that are too elegant for my casual taste.  My favs are the bedroom colors & style of the 2nd bedroom along with the sunroom/patio.  The view & landscaping are so serene.

Re: NORTHERN CONNECTICUT HOUSE

@Oznell  Speaking of Tippi Hedren, a friend whose husband was a dress designer, who had an eye for classy women, their attire, hair, poise and everything about them, nicknamed his wife Tippi because she looked so much like Tippi Hedren (maybe the reason he was attracted to her). I have not seen nor heard from them in many years and  would like to know if she is still as lovely and I bet she is.  Melanie Griffith is not as pretty as Tippi.  Now, I am totally off subject here, Oznell.

Re: NORTHERN CONNECTICUT HOUSE

Not off-topic, @Nonametoday --  it's fun that someone responded to my Tippi Hedren allusion!  I often think of films in reference to interiors I like....

That's a neat story about your friends.  Agreed, Melanie Griffith may be a perfectly nice woman, but she does not have that same 'soignee' quality of Tippi,  who has that elegance and composure....
