NEW CANAAN, CONNECTICUT HOUSE

[ Edited ]

I suspect that this house might be a little on the "quiet" side for some--  but for elegant, low-key, classic design, I think it has a lot to offer.

It's a stone house, located in an old orchard, and exudes the calmness that the mother/daughter design team "McGrath II" is so well known for.

Lovely architecture.  The stone floor here below and sky lights make me think this is some kind of indoor-outdoor room.  Love the fresh green color of walls, beautiful rug, and painted antiques:

The airy living room is conducive to conversation, with the two cozy seating groups.

A casual sunroom, this time with brick floors, love.

The couch in this family room/den looks made for lounging, and the whole room looks comfortable.

....But McGrath II always has their charming little touches, like the turned-leg console table, pretty ceramics.   The ticking upholstery on slipper chair is handsome.

At first I thought, hmm, this is a fairly casual dining room for a large, stately house like this.   Then it occurred to me--  Swedish!   It's got a total laid-back Swedish vibe, with the water-color blue walls, painted Gustavian-type chairs, iron chandelier, and charmingly naive, artisan striped table cloth.

They didn't really show the kitchen, but this is a darling little corner.

Dreamy breakfast nook:

Just a tranquil, unpretentious atmosphere.  Personally, I like just a wee bit more in the way of eclectic mix, and perhaps 'sparks' of color.

I was suprised a little, because McGrath does color well.  Remember these rooms below, ( in other houses) posted a while ago?  They're McGrath also, and display no shyness with color--

Thinking out loud here,  I'm going to guess, that the understated palette throughout, in the New Canaan house, could have been a specific request by the owner.  To me, it's still a very pretty dwelling, and despite its size, so liveable.

Edited to add, because I forgot some pictures!

I lived in New Canaan for years!  Know that house. Our personal tastes are more contemporary but this is a lovely home in a beautiful setting.

Small world!

I've never wanted a big house, but this one would be perfect if I did. Everywhere you look is a beautiful combination of classic and semi-tropical style. Deep window embrasures and seagrass rugs. Airy fabrics, polished wood, and cool stone tile floors. Everything is in proportion, understated, comfortable, inviting. It's "practically perfect in every way," as Ms. Poppins might have said if she cared about decorating.

This is a beautiful home!  I love the spaciousness of the rooms.  The living room is so appealing and I love the drapes on the doorways for privacy purposes.  I would add some color to the rooms also. The sun room is always a wonderful addition to a home for me and that would be where I would relax and read!  I feel the same about the den, so appealing, cozy and comfortable looking. The wall color in the dining room enhances and warms the room, lovely breakfast nook!  I would enjoy decorating this place.

Love so much of what I saw. That area with the sink reminds me of the old fashioned "summer kitchens" farm houses once had. How cool that one of the posters actually is familiar with this house.

Although it isn't really my style, a little too country, I could certainly move right in and live happily.  Right after I got rid of the green and orange stuff and replaced that skirt under the sink.

Re: NEW CANAAN, CONNECTICUT HOUSE

I love everything about the house, the colors, the decor, and the windows. Oh my, the windows, light streaming in every single room.

The dining room painted the beautiful blue was lovely. The living room looks comfortable and inviting. I like the furnishings, artwork and everything else in the room.

The staircase is somewhat similar to one in the house I grew up in.  Pretty vases on the marble (?) table.

Not a nook or cranny that isn't charming. Pretty perfect!

One of my favorites of your postings Oznell, thank you!

I like the quietness of the home, however, certain wall paint colors are not to my liking.

Overall, nice if I'm being nice. Cat LOL

The house is beautiful, although, we didn't see the upstairs.  I loved it all and would only have to add some accessories and paint a few walls.  LOVED the staircase!
