Agreed...that staircase is just too steep and I would be concerned with emergency services ambulance/paramedic stretcher getting access. The fireplace is surrounded by marble and if it is faux fire...than I like the design...if it is real fire... than a big NAY!

I would assume it meets fire code, but what's the purpose of it in that location?  Does the designer expect the homeowners to cozy up around that staircase?  I'm pretty sure I'd have two crispy kitties if I lived there.

There's something sort of interesting about and I don't think it's a real risk, but I guess I just prefer my spaces to be a good bit less esoteric...
