They are on they my porch again. I just hate this. I cannot endure another summer of bird poop all over my porch. The fake owls worked for a couple years. But I guess they've gotten used to them. I have power hose ready and I will continue to hose off their nests. Don.t call me a bird hater. I have several bird feeders out in my backyard and several nests in the trees. But the porch is an extension of my home it's enclosed. And I will not have them poop all over my home.

They are drawn to the area because it is quiet and protected. Put a loud noisemaker out there, such as a radio, and the birds will lose their interest in that spot.

Never worked in the past. But thanks.

This will sound ODD but we had barn swallows trying to build a nest in our vestibule. I found a solution online - small mirrors! YEP! We Velcro-d them up there and NO MORE BIRDS! Apparently they think another bird has already claimed the area when they see their reflections. Also used Clorox wipes to clean off the area - that may have helped too.

Orange, thanks for the hint. I have had the swallows return for every one of the past 15 years that I've lived here. It's too late now but I'll definitely try it next year.

What I don't get is that barn swallows will build a nest on a porch, eaves and yet I live in an area where trees and wildlife abound as I'm not a city dweller.

You think they'd prefer a tree {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Same here Snowpuppy. We are surrounded by woods. We have robins that annually insist on trying to build nests under our deck. My husband deters then long enough until they give us and go elsewhere.

But the swallows, are relentless and are currently driving my husband crazy. They are building their nest under one of our roof eaves, way up there; too high for our ladders to reach. He's like a dog with a bone and keeps jumping up and banging on the window every time he sees one fly there. i may not survive this and I am not sure how the window feels about it, but those little birds are not phased at all.

Your post made me chuckle. When you get tired of your husband chasing the swallows away at your house, send him over to mine. I need someone to help me keep the doggone crows off my roof!

My porch is heavily textured no way could I get mirrors on the walls. But tomorrow I will go to walmart and get a couple of those cheap lean mirrors. One when the fly in and one when they fly out. Thanks for the tips. I have been sick the past several days and when I saw they were back, I was overwhelmed about dealing with them.

Moxie, I have some putty-like material that supposed to be used to attach posters to walls without leaving a mark. I got it at Hobby Lobby. It will hold anything to anything. I have some on the bottom of a flower pot of flowers that has been stuck to a table outside in 70mph wind. I'm sure any craft store and maybe Walmart would have this stuff. I stick a dab on the backs of pictures to keep them straight on walls.
