We literally have more mosquitoes in our back yard than there are people in North America.  We are swarmed as soon as we step foot outside!  It's a nightmare trying to let the dogs out!   I've seen the Dynatrap presentations here on the Q and even saw them at Costco, but now when I look at the reviews, they are terrible.

Does anyone have a mosquito solution that has worked for them?  My concern with the bug zappers is this - wouldn't I be attracting even more bugs than I already have?

We would prefer not to douse ourselves in chemical DEET just to step outside for a couple of minutes, but we are running low on AfterBite & calamine lotion!

   All suggestions welcomed!

I live on 1 acre wooded lot (all around me too).  In my back yard I have the QVC machine that they advertise that catches bugs for 1 acre and in the front yard I have the one that advertises for 1/2 acre.

I looked at them yesterday afternoon and you would not believe all of the dead and a few still flying around bugs those things have caught!

It doesn't have to be the one's QVC sells but go buy one or two of those things, they REALLY work.  I was out on the unscreened part of my back porch this afternoon watering the plants and not one bug bite.  They are worth the money!

@SMA X 2:  We haven't had mosquitoes or ticks in over thirty years.  It all depends on where you live; we lived in high desert for over twenty years and now live in AZ mtns.  Therefore the only permanent solution is to move!

They bite when I'm weeding and watering my flower bed, but thankfully it isn't a swarm.

I know this sounds weird but it works for me:

1 BIG bottle of cheap blue mouthwash

3 C Epsom Salt

3 stale cheap 12oz bottles or cans of beer

mix all ingreds until salt is dissolved.

Pour into large spray bottle. Spray anywhere outside. Will not harm plants, flowers, children or pets.

My solution was to move to the desert.  I've never seen a mosquito at my house and often sit outside in the evenings watching the sun set on the mountains.  We also don't have fleas as its too dry for them.

A little off topic but I have suddenly gotten very sensitive to mosquito/bug bites. A couple of days of a strong topical steroid will take care of them. I read that the bracelets really don't help.

I am surprised about the low reviews on the Dynatrap. I have the large Dynatrap and it works well in our yard. If it brings bugs to my yard, it catches them. Here is your funny for the day ....... I don't like killing the bugs or mosquitos. When we head into the house for the night, I ask my husband to open the trap and let them go. He looks at me like I am nuts but he does it. LOL  I also bought the Thermacell when it was a TSV on QVC2. It is portable and works great. I took it with us to the outdoor activities over the last couple days. Firends were surprised with how well it works. Not one mosquito bite. One Thermacell covers 15' x 15' area. I am not fond of Deet either and if I have to use repellent, I only use Avon because it is Deet free.

Was at the beach this past week and we are oceanside. Never see a mosquito as they cannot fly on the ocean breeze. And it was hot and humid. Came home which is about 20miles from the beach and tried to sit on the porch and got eaten alive. They are huge and the mosquito spray truck hasn’t made a dent. Its been too wet and rainy and they waited too late to spray.  We tried lighting about 12 cintronella candles and ran a fan to blow them away. Worked up until about 9pm but the more humid it got the more they came out. And omg it’s so humid as soon as I walk outside my sunglasses fog up.
