In your opinion, is this a "successful" mix of old and new?  This picture came up when I searched for that subject.

This looks like the Grandmillennial decor style that I'm fond of.

Re: Mixing Old With New

[ Edited ]

@jubilant    For me, the leopard print and flame stitch throw pillows used with the floral print slipcovers  are  the most jarring  elements.

The designer picked up the black on the fireplace marble and  mirrored it in the black box on the mantle and the nearby black lampshades and the slim table in front of one of the couches.   The  see-through modern fireplace screen works and the neutral beige rug also works.

So, somewhat successful and pleasant enough to  my eye.

Nice room.  Bad furniture.

It's a lovely classic room, light and bright and pleasant.  It shows that the owner is neat and tidy, and not afraid to not chase trends and surround themselves with things they like and appreciate.

I think I would like the owner!  The room is fresh, and doesn't look like it's simply not the latest thing, but isn't worn, sad and tired and looking like the people are cheap or just don't care either.

Some lovely things, but not sure I like the way they come together. It's a long narrow room and there seems to be a bit too much in it resulting in a furniture arrangement that's somewhat regimented. I don't care for the flouncy skirts on the sofas nor for the coffee table fronting the long sofa.

@jubilant   All of it looks "old" to me, but I like it!

I can't tell what is old and what is new except the fire place.

I don't mind contemporary pieces mixed with the old, I do that myself, I just don't like this home owner's choice of flowered sofas, slick coffee table, pillows.  Bad furniture.

No not a fan---I like a few old pieces like the dresse/mirrorr or the pictures and such, but the floral couches with the skirts---no not for me.
