Re: Memory Foam Mattress Pads--questions

Another question: Do you still use a mattress pad over the mattress and then put the memory foam topper on top of the mattress pad?

The one we bought from Costco comes with it's own mattress cover that's configured to encase the memory foam composite and then that whole thing goes on top of the mattress with sides that come down and fit all around like a fitted sheet. No additional mattress pad/cover is needed.

I've always used a nice, plush mattress pad over my foam topper, although it has a cover. To keep it from shifting on top of the mattress, I use one of those sticky, white felt-like rug pads under the topper. Works like a charm.

I just remembered...before we bought the memory foam mattress pad from Costco, we tried the Pedic Solutions Mattress Pad from QVC. It didn't work the way we hoped so that's when we went to the memory foam pad. When we made the bed for the first time, we used the memory foam pad and put the Pedic Solutions over it. I thought it would be the ultimate in luxury, but it was just too much stuff on the bed. The Pedic Solutions pad actually interfered with the comfort and luxury of the memory foam so after a night or two of that, the Pedic Solutions came off.

Re: Memory Foam Mattress Pads--questions

I have bought the pedic solution 4 inch, and the newer 3 inch foam memory topper. I love them. They are not flat, but waffled, rippled and such on top. They are a high quality foam, that breaths. That is important. You need a foam that is constructed to get air flow. Otherwise you will be hot! I love mine because it quickly retrieves, and you don't sink in a spot that you have to wait to bounce back. I have bought about 8 of them, For us, grandkids, and my daughter and brother. They love them.

For the dorm room, I bought my son a memory foam topper that has a cooling gel layer. He loves it. He's been using it for about 7 months. So far it's kept it's shape, and he says he's glad I purchased it for him. I've been thinking about getting one for my bed.

I've been using one of these for under two years and it's shot with a deep permanent valley in the middle. I wouldn't recommend them. I also didn't like a 4" topper. It's was too soft and sank too deeply into it. I also tried a 2" latex topper and found it too soft also. I've practically made a career out of these things. My next one will be extra dense foam.

Re: Memory Foam Mattress Pads--questions

I wanted to add. It is important not to get one of those flat heavy foam pads if someone is infirm or has a hard time moving, turning and getting out of bed. It does say on the memory foam pads not to use under these circumstances. You can become almost immobile, and it can be hard or impossible to turn over.

I have found from trying one after another with my mom that the denser the foam, the harder it is to move, and the hotter it is. That has been our experience. I tried about 5 memory foam pads before mom found the right kind.
