Need recommendation for a mattress topper.  We purchased a new mattress without the pillow top and now regret that decision.  We previously had memory foam topper on the old mattress but don't want any foam so am looking at fiberfill for a featherbed feel.  Looking for brands, models, etc.

I always get my mattress toppers at Overstock because they have a large selection and they're the only place I know of that lists the density of the foam.  I like them firm so I look for a 4 lb density.

Here is my experience, for what it's worth.

Had feather beds because of a really old and saggy mattress and no money to replace. Got us through, but never again! Way too much dust and fluffing and an unnatural looking poofy bed. Was never so glad to get rid of those things in my life. Ate up way to much time to make the bed, air them out etc. NEVER AGAIN

Then we went with a memory  foam topper. Much better, only had to worry about it when stripping the bed clear to the bones twice a year to wash the dust ruffle and the mattress pads and things.

Finally able to get the 'right' mattress. Nothing can replace the ease and comfort of that.

I haven't ever tried the fiberfill featherbed replacement things, but can't imagine they would hold up very long, or be easy to deal with daily.

Please post back when you try something, very interested to hear what you try.

Can't beat the NN down on top featherbed I purchased here. Absolutely THE most heavenly night's sleep. And it's on top of a foam topped mattress. I'll caution that if you have arthritis or other mobility issues to think about how deep a topper you want. It can be tricky getting out of bed in the morning if you have issues.

I bought it as a TSV and originally it came with a 5 yr warranty. It did go bust in it's 4th year but NN stood behind it and replaced it. No questions asked. The warranty is now only 3 or 4 yrs.

Do a search for Pacific Coast feather co. They're in WA state. They make the NN brand. Macy's also carries them but I believe that's a lower end product.

I just took a peek and my $139 TSV with duvet cover is now $349 w/o the cover on the Pacifc Coast site. I would replace mine just the same when it comes time.

For me the best mattress topper is the old-style egg crate mattress topper.  We replaced our egg crate with a memory foam matress topper but I have intermittent back problems and found that with the memory foam topper, I got "stuck" trying to get out of bed.  With the egg crate topper, I could just slide out of bed with little effort.  We got rid of our memory foam topper and bought another egg crate topper.  I will add that we use a memory foam mattress and love it,  But the egg crate topper makes getting out of bed a breeze.

Thanks all for your help.  Still unsure of what I will do.  Really don't think I will go with any tyype of foam (memory, egg crate, etc).  Was not a fan of those in the past.  Since I have really bad allergies, feathers  wouldn't be a good idea.  Will just have to do a lot of research.  Thanks again.

@kalicat Like kachina said, don't count out foam just yet.

You may have had a density of foam that didn't work for you.  Perhaps try a different density and see whether it might work.

Overstock is good about providing the details.  I got one from there too and really like it.  (It happens to be the most popular model with all the good reviews.)

I'm not happy with my new mattress either. It was not the firmest or the softest but right in between, yet I toss and turn from pressure point discomfort. I think I should try a thick soft topper. I'm interested in what everyone's input is also.

@kalicat, we bought a Novaform Memory foam mattress 3" from Costco.  We have had it several years.  I couldn't sleep without one now.  Not hot, not hard to get out of bed.  You can return it if you're not happy.  I checked before I bought mine.  Good luck in your search.  LM

We have two guest beds that have IKEA beds and both have IKEA toppers. Every single person that sleeps on these beds always say how comfortable the beds are! Everyone! If you are lucky enough to have an IKEA store nearby I'd highly recommend theirs.
