Re: Mattress frustration/question

I just bought a king sized memory foam mattress about a month ago. I also got the adjustable base. Total price for all was $1400.00. I sleep so much better. My back, hips and shoulders no longer ache. I'm can even sleep on my side which before I could not do because it would hurt after about five minutes. There are tons online to choose from. Tuft and Needle, Helix and Casper are just a few. The adjustable base helps with the pressure points also by raising and lowering legs and neck area. It does not sleep hot as there is gel infused in it to keep you cool plus I bought a mattress pad that has cooling technology infused in it.

Re: Mattress frustration/question

In July, we bought a King size Serta I-Comfort with a remote head rise feature so I could get away from using 2 pillows........Our old mattress (20+ years old) was also a Serta.  We had put a 2 inch memory foam pad on our old one about 4-5 years ago but I was still sleeping on 2 pillows to take the pressure off my low back/hip.  Bottom Line:  It was time to get a new one.  I'm back to sleeping on 1 pillow due to the head rise feature.

Re: Mattress frustration/question

We bought an iComfort memory foam mattress two years ago.  At first, I didn't like it.  But, there is a break-in period.  Now I wouldn't sleep on anything else.

I no longer have pain when sleeping on my side.  I'm always extremely comfortable.

There is a break-in period, especially for memory foam mattresses.

We had also tested out the TempurPedic memory foam mattress.  In the store, I thought it was a little more comfortable.  But I have some chemical sensitivities, and the odor was giving me a headache.  The salesman said it would take 30+ days to off-gas.  The iComfort had no such issues.  When it was delivered, we left it uncovered for the whole day, with the windows open.  It was fine!

Re: Mattress frustration/question

I second the recommendation for memory foam.  I buy toppers from Overstock because it the only website I know that lists the density of the foam in their toppers.  I find that a 4.0 density lasts longer and is more supportive than something you'd get at Walmart or Target.  Put a good, thick mattress pad on whatever you buy and you won't have the "heat" problem some toppers and mattresses have.

Can anyone recommend a mattress that relieves pressure points on the hips?  I have bursitis in both hips, but a cortizone shot in the right side has greatly helped the pain on that side, but still can be a bit tender. My budget is around $1500. Thanks!

My ds just had to make a purchase for similar reason. As I've said before, my sil is in the mattress business (exec with large maker) and his advice to my ds was to get adjustable frame, you know, like hospital beds that rise at head and feet. He was happy to find out that his mattress worked with the frame so the purchase wasn't overly costly!

I strongly agree with @Nightowlz.  Please check this out.  I am a side sleeper, and have an arthritic hip.  This helped tremendously with the pain.  Also, the topper is much cheaper than buying an entire new mattress.

JeanLouise, I have to question how a mattress that is tightly rolled that includes both foam and inner springs will hold up over time.  I mean the fact that it can be rolled, steel springs in particular is puzzling.   I hope you have a great long experience with it regardess of my own questions.

Personally, I am sleeping on a Serta Dynanism Eurotop that I have had for 6 months now and it is perfect for me.   Soft on top few inches, good support just underneath.  I am able to sleep in all positions comfortably even on my stomach which is the trickiest position IMO.

@giddy up - it's a one shot thing.  The manufacturer compresses the mattress by s*ucking the air out and making it flat and then rolls the mattress for easier shipping.  The roll itself wasn't super tight.  I'd say the box was about 14" or 16" square x the width of the mattress.  When it was opened, the roll itself didn't overlap itself numerous times, so it's not as tightly rolled as you might imagine.  Once it's opened and expanded, that's it, the user can't re-roll it again.  There is a 10 yr. warranty on it, but these days I don't know anyone that actually keeps a mattress that long since most just aren't made like the used to be, and these are the more costly styles from a B & M store.  That said, if my mattress doesn't last me the full 10 yrs. and I replace it again with the same thing for the same general price, I'm still ahead of the game.

Re: Mattress frustration/question

I topped my 10 year old mattress with a 3" gel topper and a Cuddle Ewe underquilt. I don't need another mattress now. I have fibromyalgia, so pressure points are an issue. I wake with much less stiffness. You can also try sleeping on your back. This switch has helped with my pain. I still get onto my side during the night, but starting on my back really helps. I also switch to my back in the morning and stretch. On another thread someone suggested the Classic Brands 14 Inch Gramercy Hybrid Cool Gel Memory Foam and Innerspring Mattress, Queen on Wayfair for the best price. This one has great reviews and a decent price. Wayfair is supposed to have a great return policy too!

So far I like the site since it's suppose to have unbiased opinions. I hate looking for information on something I want to buy if the site is selling it. Sounds like the OP already bought a mattress & trying to decide if she should return it or not. It's pretty bad when you buy a new mattress & have to buy something else to add to it to make it comfy.
