This room is just OK for me. I don't care for the small tree..it looks out of place and just too small. I would replace it with a taller slim tree or do away with it.

WHile I love a well decorated mantle I also love a tree filled with different ornaments, old and new.  I have a tall tree and a smaller tree all lit and so festive. A decorated mantle on its own wouldn't compare in my opinion.

Re: MANTEL VS. TREE?

[ Edited ]

The small tree in this room is overwhelmed by the mantel IMO. The room looks unbalanced. I would prefer a taller and bigger tree in that corner in this particular space.

I don't think you have to put up a Christmas tree to celebrate the season. In past years when I was too ill to do much, we skipped the tree. We still had a wreath on our door, candles in our windows, our nativity, and a lighted garland on the banister. Christmas still came. (We don't have a fireplace & mantel in our current home.)

It is entirely possible the owners have a large tree in another, more prominent room of the house, and the room featured is simply a sitting room. I like the room just as it is.

Lovely mantel.

I would not be opposed at all seeing a 6 foot skinny pencil tree with just lights replacing the ceramic tree.Cat Tongue
