@Mominohio - Thank you for posting these pictures -your table is absolutely beautiful! I love your dishes! I'm late to the Temptations group too - I only have a few pieces, but I love what I have. After seeing yours though I could definitely change my mind and get more!
Right now my dining room table is covered with papers and tax stuff. You've given me a push to get mine in order too.
DH's stepmother was British. She wouldn't let a ketchup or mustard container NEAR her table; we always had to put them in fancy little dishes. My mom was the same way. But DH and his sisters grew up on the farm, so they weren't used to the different dishes for condiments. On the day of DH's stepmother's funeral we had a small guest lunch back at the house she and his dad shared. We were setting the table and I went to get the small condiment dishes down. One of his sisters said, "For heavens sake beach-mom, just put the ** bottles on the table." I refused. She would not have been happy, so I stood firm and got my way - this time! LOL!
I would love to be sitting at that table with you! ![]()

You choose! It's all good! Hey, bring Valerie Bertinelli with you, since she has a pretty good stock of wine on the Q today!
Lovely table @Mominohio. I love the cobalt blue color.
I would be happy to have a glass of wine with the ladies here and Valerie. Several years ago, a friend of mine ran the Boston Marathon and Valerie was running as well. As luck would have it, my friend was in the same group as Valerie. My friend said she was just as down to earth as you would imagine. She (Valerie) went around the group introducing herself as if anyone would not know who she was. I think it’s lovely when someone turns out to be exactly as you hoped.

You know how people swap homes for a week? Let's do that! I want to experience your home as well! (Colonial isn't it?). I've been to most states, but only drove through a very small part of CT, so I'd like to actually spend some time there!
@@Mominohio, That would be so much fun! Although right now, with our remodeling stuff going on, you would not believe this place. We don't know how much longer we will be here, but folks in this area don't want anything that isn't in tip-top shape. KItchen is done, now we are onto the bathrooms. Much repainting left to be done, and so much stuff to get rid of. Bit by bit, we will get it all done. I hope we can stay here a few more years, but at our ages (DH is 77, I am 73), we need to be prepared for anything. When all is done, I would welcome you!
Home renovations are the best and the worst. Always excited to get new and updated, but the stress of finding good contractors, and putting up with the mess (not to mention the bleeding of money!!) can really take a toll.
I both envy your updating, and feel your pain at the same time!

I can so relate to having condiments, salad dressings etc. on the table!! It drives me nuts, even when I set a very casual table. But I also don't like the hassle of putting them all in something 'pretty', then shoving it all back in the bottle when it doesn't get used up LOL!!
If someone came up with really pretty but functional condiment containers, they'd probably make a fortune. Something to match the table, but be sturdy enough to put right back in the fridge and keep things in without putting the stuff in and out of bottles, jars, and the serving dishes!

I had no idea that Valierie Bertinelli ran marathons!! I don't know how people do that. I was never a runner, especially long distances. Takes so much determination and work!

@Mominohio A lovely setting! Inviting and says this is a place to savor the meal and your companions!
When I was a kid all my friends ate at a table with placesettings of mostly mismatched odds and ends—often dishes our moms collected from soap boxes or gas station promotioms. Our mothers dreamed of pretty place settings. I find it interesting that while our standard of living today allows most families to have pretty tableware (multiple sets!), it often languishes in the cupboard while we eat mostly on the go from paper plates and styrofoam take out containers. The irony!

You bring up such a true and real point!
Growing up in the early years of my childhood, we did have one set of matching dishes, the Pyrex ones with the red stripe around them, but our silverware was mix matched as were the glasses we drank out of (and all our sheets were mix matched too!).
My mom had a couple of table cloths (essential back in the day), but they only clashed wildly with the dishes, and only some other odd color of paper napkin was used too.
The table looked like a circus, and not in a good way.
But the best meals were served, the bonding of the family occurred, the gathering of many relatives is fondly remembered, and the foods prepared are still made and enjoyed several generations later.
And you are so right. Today one can go to Walmart or any other discount type store, and build a beautiful matching table, right down to linens, flatware, and glasses, for very little money, yet fewer and fewer people seem to find value in setting a pretty table.
Our lives were as busy as anybody else's when raising our son. School, jobs, ball games, homework and a husband that had to be out the door to go to work by 6pm. Somehow we still managed to set the table, and eat as a family virtually every day of the week for many years. The time taken to do so is minimal.
I guess it all just depends on what one prioritizes, what one enjoys and what one doesn't. But you are so very right, it is quite ironic that the easier/cheaper it has become to do this (not to mention takes less time and effort with dishwashers, washers/dryers and no iron fabrics, microwaves etc to make the work of meal prep and clean up easier), the less people are interested in doing so!

I've always been a 'blue girl', and quite frankly, if Tara had come out with Floral Lace first, I would own no Old World (and I have tons of it in 5 colors). I think the Floral Lace is so much more elegant and suits my taste much more.
I have to say, that maybe the black would have been a better choice, as it can pretty much be used as a neutral, and as much as I love the blue (and the brown and the green...have big sets of all three colors), I think that the black is truly the most elegant and probably the most timeless. It really looks almost regal it's so perfect.
I dare not start another single color though! LOL
