Heat will eventually affect the L&L material.  It may even blister the plastic.

For that reason, I've switched to the glass L&L or other brands of glass food storage containers.

I have a few with white spots.  Agree it's the microwave.  I tossed them and use Pyrex glass instead.  I save the lock and lock for things that don't need to be heated.

I am not the OP, but I learned a lot from you ladies!!  I am going to toss the ones I have with the white spots. And I am going to stop heating in the microwave with my lock and lock. Thanks!

This could be either the microwave or the cycle on your dishwasher. I also noticed a bit if I didn't have enough rinse aid in my machine. I've only had a few pieces do this and they were very old. I recycle them to other parts of the home.(garage, storage room, etc.)

I found that my heavy duty cycle with the sani rinse isn't vey freiendly to my older pieces. I still think that the product is good and I get my $ use from it.

@Aneed  I never had a problem.  Maybe it is the soap you used in your dishwasher?  Lately, I have been washing everything by hand.  My dishes look so much better when hand washed.

Well, I'm not throwing them out. I'm old enough that something else is bound to get me before some build up of plastic. But, I agree that if it bothers you, throw it out or use it in non food uses. It isn't worth the worry.
