Re: Life expectancy vs Energy Rating

Unless you have someone that is good with taking things apart & replairing (wish I had that) My FIL many times took dryers/washers apart & fixed them. My DH has no idea. DH years ago could do repairs on cars but not now with all the computer stuff.

I wonder if it is about the size of your family & little kids and be hard on fridge doors or some family wash everyday. We are retired so no little ones running around but if an appliance breaks after 10yrs old we just replace it. I feel at 10yrs may not be worth the repair.

I agree.

I learned this lesson the hard way.  We bought a top Consumer Reports rated washer and dryer.  We spend 4 figures but I figured with just the 2 of us it would last about 10 years so fine.

The washer stopped working within the first year with multiple error codes.  It was replaced.  4 yrs later both the washer and the dryer had problems 2 months apart.  In the end, we spent about $650 on repairs.

Never again!!
