Re: Library with VERY High Ceilings

I don't like the ceiling. At least not in this room. With a different ceiling configuration, this is a potentially nice room. The height is fine. Where it falls flat for me is that the massive, light wood beams are too complete a disconnect from the rest of the room. They look like they belong in a more modern space, maybe even an upscale public space, but they don't work with the rest of this room. The pretty arched window, nice light painted built-ins, Persian look rug, simple but elegant window coverings, lamps and furniture all lend a more traditional air to this space. It's fine to mix things up, but, to me, the over-done ceiling is too prominent to work in this space...

Love the space and the built in. HATE the furniture. Too formal and it’s too drab.

@lolakimono  I love this room, and I would hope that there is a moveable ladder to get to those top books.

Re: Library with VERY High Ceilings

With a few minor edits (lighter background color and drapes), I could be very happy in this room.  Some books aren’t read at all or reread very often.  My late FIL bought us a set of early encyclopedias from a professor he knew he was leaving the country.  A set of beautiful leather books (total of 22) including a few update books, starting with 1876.  The print is teeny-weeny, and they are displayed on a bookcase in our living room.  Interesting, the professor came back to the USA and asked if he could buy the books back.  FIL said “sorry, too late.”  One of our many stories!

I like the ceiling & archway entrance.  Room needs to be lighter, lose the heavy drapes & get lighter furniture.  I know for sure I wouldn't ever want to dust the shelving unit/books.

Beautiful, warm library. Love the celery green which is calming and relaxing to me. Would prefer a couple of leather wingback chairs for comfort, rather than the club chairs and shared ottoman which would take up less space.

You'll laugh when I say I think this room, height, ceiling, makes the furniture appear as doll furniture!

How do you keep up cleaning this??? Oh no, - a bulb just burned out. Now what??? All I see are cobwebs, dust, spidies hanging down dangling overheard! No, this won't work for me.
