As a little kid, I grew up in my grandparents home. My grandmother had her MIL's fine china from Germany stored in beautiful china cabinets. Along with linen. Real linen that you wash and press and sterling silver flatware. The table was set every Sunday as well as special occasions. Sadly my mother ditched the tradition.
I have Lenox Hannah Gold as my dinnerware. I also have Snow Holly Tree Gold dessert plates for Christmas. I had fine Lenox crystal but as fragile as it was I have been replacing it with Lenox leaded crystal which is more durable but less 'ring' to it. I got a fortune for the remaining pieces on ebay.
I still want real Thomas Ferguson Irish tablecloths Wallace Silversmiths flatware *sigh*
Whoa - I've met my secret competitor. Thanks for sharing.

50 years ago Mom's "good" dinnerware, for Holidays and company, was Franciscan Pottery Apple Pattern. Boy oh boy i always loved those dishes! Thirty or so years ago she replaced them with Lenox.. both silver rim and plain w/out rim, and also a set of Christmas dinner plates with the holly in the center of the plate. Mom is a stellar chef and mealtimes were always an "event"! We like a pretty table, too! Lenox is big in our family.. stemware, vases, coasters too!
I now have Mom's original Franciscan dishes and have added to the collection (vintage!) vigourously over the years! We use it as our everyday dishes.. i still just love them! They are in the kitchen cupboards as well as on display in that sweet antique cupboard (photo). I'm enjoying everyone's stories here.. nice thread! ~ sue

My aunt had that pattern. A friend of mine who married in the 60's had registered for the pattern that was pink--not sure if it was also apples.

MS_GTYUP ~ that Lenox Rose is beautiful, btw. I would love to see your table set w/ the stemware, flatware, linens. Your Grandmother must have appreciated beauty very much. Take care.

So many pretty patterned dishes, so little money and time. I grew up with the 'Blue Willow' pattern and have always liked it but went another way with my dishes. I do remember the Franciscan Ware patterns as well and many a new wife would start her collection for everyday use or any day use.
The Nortitake is also lovely. Very fancy but hey, we are worth it aren't we.
Thanks for sharing all your lovely posts and offering info on the sales too.
