I had laminate in the kitchen in our previous home.  I loved it.  We have bamboo here in our condo and I wish I could replace it with laminate.

When my friend had her first house built she was so excited to be the first in her area with bamboo flooring. A year later she took it up and put laminate. Everytime I remember this, I smile.

That's what I am asking. Has anyone but laminate ove r a wood floor.?

I would sand the wood first and check for splinters. Also put the padding over the hardwood and snap the laminate together.

Ok, maybe I misunderstood the thread, thought she was saying wood or laminate? Not "wood over laminate."

Either way...I see most are still saying "get wood!" I don't want anything being a deterent when selling so, probably wood will have to be it.

Though I do have friends that sold their pretty condo about 7 years ago, with laminate floors, no prob. Still...I get the points here.

The Subdivision  where we live is about 4 years old. Some have laminate and some have engineered wood. These houses were bought for about $250,000 and some owners are selling for $388,000 and they are going fast.

I keep forgetting about the Coretec flooring that's in my small TV/laundry area.   100% waterproof, very durable, and super easy to install.

Re: Laminate over wood floor

I really think it depends where you are.   Where we live we see a lot of tile and laminate/vinyl/ceramic etc flooring.  Lots of dust and dirt here.  We were recently house hunting and saw very very little hardwood floors.

We've always had hardwood floors but the house we bought has something that looks like wood but isn't.  Prior owners had 3 dogs and had this installed.  It's fine with me.  I wouldn't want to maintain hardwoods here.
