I don't mind velvet when it's done in a casual or funky way.  I prefer velvet that is more like a microsuede texture than a true velvet.  What I don't like is "formal velvet."  Although this room is not decorated in a style I like, I don't mind the couch at all; in fact I kind of like it.  Not a huge fan of the blue chairs though; but they're not awful. I think the room is a bit bland.

@lolakimono   Pretty room...but not if you have little sticky grandchildren.  😊

Glad to have leather.

I think that's a very inviting room.    I love the ceiling and those giant sliding doors to the outside!   We had a vaulted ceiling similar to that in our home which we sold about a year ago.  I always loved it as it reminded me of a ski chalet!

Re: LR with Velvet Seating

[ Edited ]

I'm not fond of the color scheme ---brown and blue....and dont like the clutter in the corner with the macrame hanger and dont care for the white shelf (doesnt seem to go) nor the artwork.....

I love velvet! But the furniture on this picture is not appealing to me. To me the styles clash and the colors look blah and dusty.

This room has a lot of potential, given the large space with lots of windows. Unfortunately, it's not at all realized. For me, this is one of the most unattractive rooms I've seen in quite some time. I do like velvet, but not this stuff. Nothing in this room would remain when I was finished with it.

Like the cozy factor. I think every sitting room should be comfortable. Colors aren't my preference, but this would make a good gathering room.

Velvet does make our homes dressier and more cozy. A month ago we moved to our new home and I added some velvet there. I got dark chocolate velvet curtains for my master bedroom, tobacco gold velvet curtains for living and dining rooms and silver gray kitchen chairs.F415D1D8-F914-4570-940B-550DBF280C2C.jpeg

I like it, but not the color of the couch.  It looks very out of place for the rest of the colors in the room.
