@Laura14

Well, so last night I could not sleep and went on line to look for a button.  Yes, a button, well THE button.  I recently purchased a piece from the Barefoot Dreams web which I love.  But, I think I would LOVE it if I add a button and loop.  Thus, the search for the absolutely perfect, one and only, button.  I found it!

But, I was still not sleepy.  So, I went on a search for purple decorating items.  I know that was very presumptious of me, but I had SO much fun.  If you think you might be interested I will post here, but no pressure, no hard feelings, just things I found on line.  If you are inundated, not interested, have enough, want to do it yourself, whatever, just let me know.

If you are interested I will post them here.  Just say yea, or nay.

Re: Kitchen shelves Take 1

[ Edited ]

I love open kitchen shelves stocked full of kitchen items.  A stack of dishes, a couple of mugs, some platters turned on their sides.  Some baskets filled with things that are used...like cloth or paper napkins or wooden spoons.  Even cans of food or boxes of food items arranged neatly.

Whatever goes there will get dusty and dirty if not used and washed often.  Things will get ruined.  I had a cloth recipe box on a shelf and it got dusty and greasy.

I love your glitter boxes and dishes.  I would stack up the dishes and not line everything up as little soldiers spaced evenly apart.  Do you have some vases that you need to store someplace or some cookbooks?  How about that large casserole dish or tea kettle?

You could line the back of the wall between the shelves with purple and cover up the tile. I think purple would give this space a nice pop.  It's a lovely accent color.

Enjoy your new kitchen.

@Drythe  I would be honored!  I can't believe you did that.  I'd love to see anything you have to share.

Know that whatever you put there, it'll be changed over time as you begin to know what you like, and even as your tastes change, @Laura14

Other than what I can only imagine will be inspired choices from @Drythe, you can do a search for "open kitchen shelf decor" or something similar and find a lot of ideas about items, placement, arrangement, and more.

I keep seeing a large, flat clock and a sign saying "kitchen" or "bistro" or "eat" or even your name.

If you were to use the mixer, can you lift it off the shelf without dropping it or hurting yourself? Otherwise the plates are a great idea if you don't mind your dinnerware being out. It is great if you were to set up there right where you would wash it. The boxes could be filled with more plates or decoratives or take them down and put the bowls there with the cups, just a few, what you use daily maybe. At first glance, I thought the dark feathers were a rooster. I would move them to the middle since they are the tallest... symmetry.

I think the feathers should be in a room other than the kitchen.  To me I think the shelves would look better with kitchen type items, decorative plates, pitchers, pretty teapot, things of that type.  The idea a poster made of the cake plate is a good one,  Or, how about short candle pedestal with a pillar candle   I bought a Valerie Parr Hill lighted Hurricane and something like that would be great in the center of one of the shelves.  VPH also has a lighted glass urn (H213762) and 3 lattice glass jars (H213562) that are available in lavendar since you are looking for purple.  You can also get some good ideas by looking at the Valerie Parr Hill videos of some of the items that have shelves in them.   Use groups of three with taller in the center.  It's such a good feeling coming into a room that pleases you.  Have fun with your project.
