Interesting but I honestly didn't like any of the rooms.

I do think the decorators involved in any of these show houses must feel enormous pressure to not only bring in a large number of people (since many of these are charity events) but to also showcase their own talent by putting as many touches and elements as they can to show potential clients what they can do. It's never "less is more" in these homes.

As in any show home, they are over the top. Remove portions and many of these rooms become much more liveable. The designers are creative and have to show as much as possible in a limited space. My parents and in-laws both purchased showhomes in the late 1960's-early 1970's. Both enjoyed the majority of each home, but both ended up hiring decorators to tone down the gaudy decor without loosing the homes' uniqueness. My mom had excellent taste, but didn't feel she was qualified to tackle the project on such a large scale. My MIL has never decorated anything in her life and was simply overwhelmed when family and close friends told her it wasn't in good taste. With professional help, both homes kept their new and unique appeal with a tasteful vibe. NO 1960-70's appearance in either one . . . ever.

As with most showhouses, there are both elements and entire rooms I like and many elements and rooms I don't like... That said, whoever perpetrated this bat guano of a nightmare onto a clearly stunning old mansion should be immediately stripped of any design credentials he or she might have... They shouldn't have been allowed to install it in the first place... The only thing redeeming about it is the beautiful staircase railings, which they probably weren't permitted to bastardize...

The some of the rooms are really over the top!!!
My friends and I enjoy going to the Showcase of Homes (a million dollars on up) they have these once or twice a year. We go mostly to check out the decorating styles and see the newest features......
Most of them are done very nicely....some are very unique (they had one home where one room was decorated for the dog--with dog themed accesories and fabric and rawhide bones for curtain ties--very cute)...
But another home was done very oddly--it looked like a mad scientist lived there....They had decorated the home with these these huge glass cylinders that reminded one of science test tubes and beakers found in a science lab!!!
Another home looked like it had been decorated for King Arthur.......
One of the best decorated was done by a High School Home Economics Class.....
