KETCHUP DOES WORK ON OLD BRASS!

Little back story:  In warm weather, I like to put out for summer display, a combo of sea glass with bleached white pebbles and a few sea shells mixed in.

Last year, the vessel I used was a ceramic bowl.  Well, it got a teeny bit scratched.  (It is tempting to run your fingers through the cool pebbles and shards, and things must hit the side of the bowl!)

So I've unearthed my favorite metal container, a midcentury brass dish in the shape of a swan.  I like patina'd brass, but this was just too dull looking, almost dirty right down in the carved wings.  So tried that old wives' tale of ketchup polishing up brass, and presto!  If you don't have brass polish on hand, a good alternative.

Now, I only polished it to a point-- just so it had that lovely old burnished look.  If you wanted a super high gloss, it would probably take more than the few minutes I spent.

Rinsed with my handy spray bottle of homemade cleaner, a vinegar and water solution, so there'd be no spicy ketchup smell on my swan.  Nice, non-toxic way to buff up treasured old brass!
