Re: Joanna Gaines Take on Black and Neutrals

It is a very pretty and inviting room. I wouldn't mind it in just one room but wouldn't want the entire home to be that way. I knew a couple in the seventies and they had their entire home, wardrobe and even vehicles done in nothing but black and white.

I agree @kutira it's pretty but not what I'd want. The pile of books with a cup on top is pure staging. Imagine the mess if you had a rambunctious dog or kid.

Hmmm...  I would of done the shelf cutouts (fries and shelves)

completely in the wall color.

A light gray sofa instead of cream.

A simple wood mantel ledge in white with a separate black framed art print for some color above that.

(I will take that small black drawered table, thank you.)

Oh, yes, I agree, @jubilant -- not my usual palette, but still, an elegant room.  Part of her success with it, I think, are the simple touches of warmth in the natural wood mirror, soft upholstery and pillows, stacked books, birch logs in wire basket.  And she wisely went with a subdued white color, not a bright, glaring one...

😂OOPSY!, my previous post said fries! Meant shelves...

    (obviously, need my ☕️, yep!)

Also will add, llike the color and texture mix on the pillows and throws.

Like the black wire basket with birch logs also.

Adds interest.

Re: Joanna Gaines Take on Black and Neutrals

Why do I think that room with that furniture in any color would still feel like a room to look at but not to live in?

I'm so down-sized that I LIVE in my livingroom and I'm just not that prim and proper. I need comfy chairs, a sofa I might stretch out on, even a TV and some closed storage.  Oh, some color to relieve the neutrals I do love.

I love it. Black with cream or off white with greenery is my favorite.

I don't like a stark white.

The chairs look pretty but for comfortable seating I would change them.

It leaves me cold....and that tilting stack of old books serving as an end table is pathetic.

It looks like battle sides will be taken with an alley to separate the two sides.

Not a fan of the rug at all.  Too busy for my taste.

Re: Joanna Gaines Take on Black and Neutrals

I am normally not a black/white decor person, but I do love this! It is so elegant, and it would be very easy to add a pop of color to this if one wanted to....
