Re: JoAnn's (Yeah, that place…)

It seems all the craft stores do same thing , give you a fifty percent off coupon (regular price) then put everything on sale! Michaels esp.

I had a disagreement concerning a return at our local store. I have not been back since. There are many places where I can purchase items like they sell.

That happened to me, and I was completely horrified at the Salem Witch trial under which I was placed.

I had purchased the entire remainder of a bolt of fabric, but with the question asked (on my part): If this does not work, I can bring this back, right? And the answer was "yes".

So the girl measured the remainder of the bolt, put the price tag on the material, and I picked out other things and checked out.

Well the fabric would not work, so I returned it, with the receipt, the price still stapled in where the girl had measured and tagged it.

And all was good…so I thought.

They measured the fabric and then the lady measuring looked at me like a snippy old bat and walked away to bring in the giant troll. The giant troll measured the fabric, just as the snippy old bat had. The troll in its best troll voice said: This isn't the same measure.

I said: What do you mean?

The giant troll left and brought TWO other females. They looked like wire people, thin, hard featured, clicky nails tapping on the measuring table with their clicky voices chattering in high tinny tones.

I thought I was going to be dunked in the back lot.{#emotions_dlg.scared}

The troll measured again, showing me how, what she comes up with as a measurement, is just under three inches from what the tag says. "See?" The troll bellowed.

I ask: Are you saying I took less than three inches from a patterned piece of material? To use as what? A book mark? Is this what you are saying?

Yup! Echoed the troll, and the tin twins cackled in their metallic throats. The snippy old bat snapped out: You can't return it!

So I said:

You do realize I bought the end of the bolt and it was measured to the end, right?

The troll said: That shouldn't make any difference in the measurement.

I said: Then measure the other side of the fabric because look at the end piece. (I held up the end and showed how it was at an angle and not straight.) I said: You can see too, that the end piece is not cut but wrinkled, as would be at the end of a bolt. So measure the other side.

The troll told the snippy old bat to measure. She unfurled her arms which were folded tight against her chest like a good bat soldier. And when she measured the other end, it came out to the tag measurement. Exactly. No missing less than three inches!

The troll party was over. The metal tin twins tapped away into the dark cave in the back room. The troll sulked into troll hall, and the snippy bat snipped out approval for the refund.

This is a true story except for the embellishments.

This is hysterical!!!

JoAnn's and Michael's: Landfill stores.

What does Landfill Stores mean? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

It means 90% of the junk they sell is MIC, lead laden, qrap that is destined to be landfill within the year.

I don't mean the fabric and sewing supplies; mostly the "craft junk."

Re: JoAnn's (Yeah, that place…)

I couldn't agree more with the posts here. Our Jo-Ann's is so small and I think has more craft and nic-nacs for sale than fabric. I usually only go if I need something or they have a decent sale. I'm not at all impressed with their store or their employee's. On too many occasions, I have witnessed nasty and rude employees, when a customer is simply asking for help. Really? That's your job. We have one lady ( I use that word lightly) who I will wait to go to another employee than to be waited on her. She's just plain evil. I wonder why Jo-Ann's hasn't addressed this problem and or if they even know how lousy the service is and the goods are lacking in so many ways. What's with all the kids craft's? Go to Michael's if you want that. I'd love to have a fabric store that sold nothing but fabric and sewing needs, not junk for the house and kid's things. After all it's called Jo-Ann's Fabrics.

I thought it was just ME!! I absolutely hate Joann's. Used to love it, but then they moved to another site, and now there are ALWAYS LONG LINES, and NEVER any sales help. Ugh.

Re: JoAnn's (Yeah, that place…)

My sister was in JOANN'S yesterday buying me garland she called me with a few questions and had to ask a clerk if certain things were on sale. I listened to them converse back and forth and I thought the clerk treated her very kind. When she came home she called and we were talking and she herself said how very nice and helpful the clerk was that helped her with things she was buying. I have always found our store to be well stocked and the ladies who work there are nice and very willing to help figure sale prices on things.

Ical, loved your troll story{#emotions_dlg.laugh} (sorry for the experience that inspired it!)

I actually haven't had a bad experience at JoAnn's so I guess I am one of the lucky ones!

Re: JoAnn's (Yeah, that place…)

I like my JoAnn's. The employees are very helpful, I've never ordered from their website since it's easier to go to the store. I've never had a problem with returns either.

Good luck finding a lot of merchandise that isn't imported these days.

Re: JoAnn's (Yeah, that place…)

I've never been impressed with Joann's. I don't shop there for several years, then all of a sudden think it might be better and go. Nope, nothing had changed and I always seem to have buyers remorse no matter what I get.
