When I first saw this movie (State Fair) I was a kid and I thought it was so neat that there were no screens on any of the windows, lol. I vowed I would have those priscilla curtains in all my windows when I got married and no screens. Saw the movie again recently and it all came back.

I feel exactly the way you do about those windows and curtains.

I grew up as a little girl with those curtains, and have always loved them.

Of course at some point, you just didn't see them anymore, and I didn't use them either.  Only could become nostalgic watching old movies.

Then in the late 90's I was watching a HGTV show, where a designer had decorated a small cottage type house, and used pricillas (the kind that criss cross and provide good window coverage) in all the rooms.  She said she wanted to have privacy, but let in light, and the decor was cottage-style.  It looked so pretty.  She said she had found the curtains in a catalog.

This set me in motion to find those curtains.  Well it took a lot of looking (I even first made a pair and that was some job), but I finally found a catalog source, and I bought many pairs.

I still have them now in many of my windows.  I'll always love them.  I know some people would think "how dated", but that's exactly what I want.  I prefer to think of them as "vintage", but that's how I like my home to be.

By the way, I love that movie, and have always liked Jeanne Crane.  I think that's her.

@blueroses47  Yes, that's Jeanne Crain. Sounds like you and I are a rare breed! Congratulations on having the curtains you always wanted. Sounds warm and cozy.

I just recorded this movie the other day!  I have not seen it in a long time and I love it .

My aunt used to have those curtains in her house.💕 We just had straight drapes.

@Judaline  I had them in every window when I first was married. Not sure if the movie influenced me, but probably my Mom more than anyone.

I THOUGHT I didn't spell her last name correctly.

I love window curtains/drapes.  My mother went to a store in the city which sold such lovely curtains and she would buy panels and kitchen curtains.  I do the same and change them for winter and then the warm months.  I love the warmth of the look and feel the curtains always spruce up a room. I also like the privacy window treatments provide.

Agree @spiderw  I don't care how private the space, I like window coverings.

I like the nostalgic look of priscillas. Growing up, my mom often used priscilla type curtains and still uses a modified, less frilly style in her living and dining rooms. I once tried darker non-opaque patterned priscillas at a sliding door but didn't like the look, though I wouldn't mind trying something lighter at the windows in one of my rooms.

stevieb!

I agree about priscillas, I love the look and warmth they bring to any room in the house. Many people had that style curtain and it always enhanced a room.

As far as openness , not for me.  I like privacy whether I am near another property or not.   I have watched too many scary movies to have such openness when dark!!  LOL
