Isn't there a product that will capture bleeding dye in the washing machine?

Someone gave me a used patchwork quilt that has red dye bleeding from the red patches.  I've known since childhood that red dye may bleed, but whoever made this quilt did not.  Anyway, I vaguely remember reading about a product that will capture random dye in the washing machine.  I think that application was for denim jeans.

Yes, Shout Color Catchers, or Carbona Color Grabbers.  Both work really well.  Use them all the time.  Saves alot of time doing laundry, when you can wash colors together.  Used when my daughter was a baby, for all the baby clothes in one load!  Need them in your cupboard.  I find them a must.....Good luck with the quilt!

Haha.  I was going to say the same thing.  I haven't tried them, but they sound like they fit the bill.

I have used both products and prefer the Shout ones.

I tear them in half....think they may pick up more dye

Also, they are expensive:  I have re- used them several times and they work up to a point.

Also, best to wash in cold water to prevent color bleeding.

I'd check with a quilting store, too, because a vinegar rinse may help to *set* that red dye, @depglass.

Years ago I purchased a red dirt shirt for my son. It came with instructions to wash it in a vinegar solution to set the color , which I did. Cant remember the proportions but it worked . I agree with this vinegar wash.

Wondering it these products work after the dye has already bled as the OP stated ? Thought they only worked to keep the color from bleeding not to fix a problem that already happened. This would be great news because I also have a quilt with this problem too. T I A.
