I've always had one in my kitchen. I grew up with one in our kitchen. My mom still has one in her kitchen.

For me it's a tradition! 😅

I also can hide things in there I don't want my husband to see, like the gift card I got for a friend who he didn't particularly like or a gift card for my son who got all A's in college and he thinks that is foolish.  Just stuff that is not junk, until I can take care of it.  Scotch tape is junk?  No, I have that in my drawer, a supply of pens and pencils, post-it notes  Are they junk?

I have a junk drawer. But the stuff in it is not junk to me, lol! I rationalize it by telling myself that I might just need that one bread tie for a plant! Or the wire off the potato bag to wire something together! I clean it out a few times a year and it looks so nice, for about 2 days. Sigh. I love my junk drawer and couldn't do without it.

My answer is NO.  I need "junk" drawers to keep things organized.  Mine are in the garage and organized by content including but not limited to:

Small tools (hammer, pliers, screwdriver, scissors, tape measure, knife, etc.) 

Lawn/garden equipment (cutters, pruners, trowels, hand rake, gloves, landscape tools, etc.)

Miscellaneous (masking tape, glue guns, cord, twine, duct tape, scotch tape, extension cord).

The drawers are reorganized on occasion so items are kept in orderly fashion.  Our tool drawer used to be in the kitchen but was moved when I needed that drawer for kitchen items.
