I prefer light color wood and modern style myself.  I have noticed your home is dark.  But modern style is lighter.

It depends on the sunlight.  I built this house with 3 x 5' windows in the woods.

@pigletsmom   I wouldn't be surprised if some of the decor might be fake, so if that is what you were referring to, I take no issue with that.

My post was not about decor, it was about the built-in choices, which I found unusual.

As someone else here said, easy to clean because there's little in this apt to clean.

@PINKdogWOOD I think it is a bit of a blank canvas.  The contrast in the built-ins was striking, which is why I posted.

Hi @ECBG, I meant the color of the wood in your home is dark.  Sunlight won't change that!  The wood in the home I posted is white oak.

Re: Interesting design in NYC architect apartment

While I don't gushingly adore this, I like it a heckuva lot better than some of the other, formal, overcluttered houses that are posted here.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Wow that's one expensive studio!

I'm not into the minimalist modern look of it but

the windows, wood columns, wood beams and exterior are all gorgeous. I agree it is an interesting mix of cool and warm tones.

Re: Interesting design in NYC architect apartment

If I were looking for a NY apartment and this was my style and in my budget I would probably love it.

NYC living at this time does not appeal to me and the Modern Style is far from warm and inviting so this one is not at all for me.

I like the warm woods, but I'm not a fan of grey. When I see the complete space, I see how the warm woods and grey tones are balanced throughout, but it's just not a color combination I like.

I love shelving, but these shelves are just too plain & simple. I like that they have accessories to add some personality, but the space is still too streamlined and pared back for me.

@NYCLatinaMe

The backstory of this apartment reminds me of our friends who live down the hall. When their next door neighbor was toying with the idea of selling his small condo they jumped on it and purchased it with no realtor involved.

The original owner's mother had had the unit professionally remodeled/decorated, spared no expense and it is very nice. But it is not used as a home. Our neighbor is a forensic psychologist using it as his office and receiving a very handsome tax write-off.

Re: Interesting design in NYC architect apartment

I like that it is light and bright, and lots of places to hang out.  But I think it looks exactly what an architect would do to an apartment in New York.

I do love love the floors!  We had maple floors that were that color in one house and to this day I miss them!
