Instructions for Christmas Ornament Wreath

[ Edited ]

@Kachina624,@DecorDiva,@CindyNC, @Pixie12,mimomof4

For anyone who may be interested, here are instructions for

making a Christmas Ornament Wreath.

You will need a styro foam wreath form. I used a 16" green one, from Joanne's. You could use a smaller or larger base.

My finished wreath is 21" in diameter.

A hot glue gun, floral pins, wire for hanger. I used floral wire.

      Tinsel garland, silver or gold.

      For 16" wreath, I used 22 new inexpensive 2 1/2 " balls for

outside circumference. If you make a smaller wreath use 2" balls.

For inside circle, I used 11 2" balls. For smaller wreath use

1 1/2".

I used 24 1 1/2" balls for the second inside row and to fill in spaces.

I also used 1" and 3/4" balls to fill in spaces.

For front of wreath I used the most decorative ornaments.

Mine were found on Etsy and were vintage. You can use all new ornaments or vintage. Etsy, garage sales and ebay and flea

markets are good places to find old ornaments, if you want vintage and don't have any.

The ornaments don't have to be perfect. Only one side will

be showing. Figural ornaments like birds, Santas, angels, pinecones, snowmen etc. are fun to use. I used some vintage corsages on mine. I also used some silk poinsettias on two of the ones that I made. These are the kind of things to place on front of wreath. On one, I used a Santa ornament that had a piece broken off, but that was the side glued down.

One wreath that I made was all solid new red, silver and pearl. I placed three vintage ornaments at the top and two vintage bells at the bottom.

Later, I will post pictures of the other wreaths to share ideas.

If you want to make one for next year, this is a good time to get some supplies on sale and then find your special pieces

through the year.

                                  I will continue below.

  Ornament Wreath - continued.

*     To begin, wrap tinsel garland around styrofoam base to cover the base. I used floral pins to hold garland in place.

*     Next,I used floral wire and wrapped it around wreath form, at top,

making a loop for hanging. You can double the wire or use any strong wire for a secure hanger. Loop should be in back of wreath.

*     Place largest ornaments around circumference of wreath in

a color pattern that you like. You want to hide the cap at top of ornament in placing in toward inside, not to show. Make sure that hanging loop is at the top of wreath.

*    When glue gun is ready, put just enough glue on the spot that will be in contact with the tinsel covered wreath base, to hold it securely and

it will not wobble. Hold in place for a minute, until glue set.

You do not want any glue to show.

*   Next, take the next size, 2" small balls and place around inside of wreath, again placing so cap is not showing. I place them facing the wreath form, so they will not scratch wall, when hanging. The row next to this will be the 1 1/2" balls.

*   To me, the most pleasing pattern is to place a few decorative ornaments at top in 12:00 position and I also like

something at the 6:00 position, like I did with the bells.

Some special decorative pieces look good at 2:00, 5:00

and 9:00. Those three positions were suggested in the instructions that I followed. I like to place the pieces to find the most pleasing pattern, before starting to glue.

*   After glueing in your special pieces, fill in spaces with the

smaller ornaments. You can fill in as much as you want, if you

don't want the tinsel base to show.

Finished diameter is about 21", using a 16" base.

                  Have fun!
