Think about it, it's not likely anyone's going to be thrilled to inherit it... If you want, for sentimental reasons, keep a piece or two of it, but why keep it just to take it out occasionally to look at and have to clean!?
Who said I don't use it? I took it out to set the table and it was all tarnished. Geeze - people do jump to conclusions on these boards. it really isn't mine to sell even if I wanted to - it belongs to my husband - it was his mothers and his grandmother's before that. And I happen to enjoy having beautiful things like crystal and china and silver. To set a special table for my friends and family when they visit is a joy to me.
I am always amazed at how the people here do not understand about sentimental value of items that have been owned by ancestors.
Talk about leaping to conclusions... get over yourself. In your OP you said absolutely nothing about ever using these utensils... You also said "I" inherited... which would imply they're yours to do with as you please. I fully get the joy of having beautiful things and I fully understand sentimental value, and yet your original post made it seem as though the items are more or less a burden... And speaking of amazement, I'm always amazed by the capacity some seem have to go fully 360 in order to censure others on these boards... Do whatever you want with your utensils... For all I care you can melt them down and use them for DH's costly new bridge work...
My MIL didn't have a dishwasher but she had nice sterling silver!
Unhappy Housewife-Please put me on ignore and change your signature line while you are at it. It just doesn't seem to "fit" you. I refuse to try and help you or comment on any of Your threads anymore. I would suggest the other posters follow my lead and just not respond to you and get attacked the way you do to them. You are crazy. BYE!

The RIGHT answer is whatever she says....and she says it with the same authoritative delivery whether she is completely correct or completely incorrect!
Same pattern; let me throw this out there, oh, you don't agree, with me, then I'll pick up my toys and go home! You are mean girls!

My Grandma's silver from 1919 is in Ziplocs and has done fine. It isn't even a regular pattern, it was specially engraved. I rarely use it but it's cool to have.

In a nutshell, I think we should have told her to put the d**n silver in the d**n plastic bags.

Didn't note any bashing of the OP. On the other hand, when you're so darned happy... you routinely harp on others, put yourself out there as the only authority on pretty much everything and as the lone remaining bastion all that's good, right and true... then it only makes sense that sooner or later, turn about it going to be considered fair play...
But I digress... Pahhhhhhhhdonn moi... but in the way of an inquiry... precisely, please, just how often does one set a fancy table, utilizing the good crystal, the good china and the good silver service on the fold down table in the camper...? Hmmm?

My goodness, women are catty creatures, all the way around on this thread, and yes, I have also been told that I didn't know a thing, or what I was talking about, by the OP.
