Why spring clean in the middle of winter?  

I change my sheets at least once a week and strip my bed at least once a month down to the mattress..all year around.  I wash my windows often...I hate dirty windows and mine tilt in, so easy to so.  My DH will often wash the windows too.

i dust my walls but never wash them unless they have fingerprints or some other dirt showing.  We paint every other year and my walls were all painted Thanksgiving week.

I used to do the seasonal cleaning thing, but no more.  I deep clean all year around one room this month and one room another month, a little at a time.

I don't plan on wasting a whole week or a whole day deep cleaning ever again.

You are an inspiration @Mominohio. Wow, makes me want to get started. My mom use to get on a ladder and wash the walls with Spic n Span. That water was black just after a small section of the kitchen was done. She never fried food, no one smoked,  don’t know why the walls were so dirty.

Growing up we used to do spring and fall cleaning. 

My mother changed the curtains in the kitchen and the bedrooms and the bedspreads on all the beds.

It was a time for moving the furniture, washing windows, waxing the kitchen floor.

In between was weekly vacuuming and dusting and damp mopping the floor.

It's mid February! Why would I be "spring cleaning"??

I have begun to purge and throw out.  I will then start my Spring Cleaning.  I love doing it.

Since I  retired, 4 years ago, I just can't seem to get excited about it anymore. I use to want my house to be clean enough to eat off the floor! I truly enjoyed cleaning and the sense of accomplishment it gave me to have a very clean, fresh smelling and sparkling  house. Not to mention the comments from friends and family when they would visit. Now It's like a plaque I once had that said;

"My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy!

I will not be spring cleaning until the weather breaks for good.  That means usually mid to the end of May.  We got more snow last night and for me to spring clean my main floor at this time would be a wasted effort with snowy/wet feet coming into the house via the dog. 

I do wash down my walls, wipe down the ceiling, do baseboards, wipe all the wood tables and furniture down with Murphy's Oil Soap, etc.  Every knick-knack gets washed.  I cannot imagne not wiping down my walls, especially in the bathrooms and kitchen, unless I painted every year or 2 which to me is a complete waste of time and money. 

To those commenting about the OP spring cleaning in winter, I believe when spring does arrive, she is outdoors doing planting and other outdoor tasks because she has a farm.

I clean all the time.  There is no spring cleaning for me cause deep cleaning never ends.  I do have a cleaner once in a while and I always ask her to help me with the baseboards.  I am repainting a lot this year, so I don't have as much wall washing to do.

I spring clean in the middle of the winter because although we aren't actually farmers, we live like farm folk. Once April hits, we have to be outside most hours of the day and the work during spring summer and fall is mostly about outside, full time for me, and exhausting much of that time. And the outside work doesn't usually end till Thanksgiving, sometimes even beyond. If I don't do it now It doesn't get done, and I'm picky about my living environment being clean, even things I can't see. 

In the late spring/early summer, we have lots of pollen and no air conditioning, so to enjoy the clean, I do it now before the pollen starts, then it is easier to keep up with just that pollen mess, in the areas near doors and windows, once it starts to blow.

Some of my rooms haven't been painted in 25 years and look great because of yearly washing of the walls. I'd rather wash a wall than paint one any day. We have started interior painting one room every other year or so, and I have three more than really need it, and I dread even thinking about it. I could never imagine painting every other year. I'd rather be shot! LOL That said, I'm planning on doing the family room this year. 

I don't think it matters how someone deep cleans, just that it gets done as needed. Spread it out, do it all in one block, it's all a choice based on lifestyle, health, schedule and needs. But I don't think spreading it out takes any less time/days. I just prefer to have it all done at once, then manintain it throughout the year as time permits.

Because in my life, deep cleaning of the home needs done on at least a yearly basis @ID2 . 

Spring is the beginning of endless outdoor work for me, and there is no time or energy to do it. I use the down time between holidays and spring outdoor work (which generally starts anywhere from mid March to mid April) to purge my closets, drawers, cabinets, then clean everything in every room. 

For some, it seems winter is 'dirty' and back in the day it was with the wood stoves, coal furnaces etc. running all winter. We have electric baseboard heat, no furnace blowing dust. Our dusty period actually comes in June with a lot of pollen from trees, and I'm not about to try to deep clean the whole house in the middle of the summer, with everything else I have to do outside that time of year. It's just what works for me. 

I have a friend who taught school for 30 years, She did her spring cleaning the last week of June. It's just what worked for her, with her work schedule.
