He also never closes the shutters as he is turning the lights on so I have to be sure to do that because you can see right into our house from the street, we are very close to the street, tiny front yards. Then in the morning all the shutters need opened again or it is very dark in here. This is the same man who complains that I waste electricity because I turn on the ceiling fans or run the dishwasher or washing machine.

Can't imagine living with someone like that.

I leave a few kitchen lights on and a couple of lamps on first floor. If

a room isn't being used I keep the lights off.  Bedrooms no lights if

not in use. All bathrooms have a night light that stay on all night.

Upstairs hallways have night lights and there are electric candles in

front windows. I keep a few first floor lights plugged into wireless

remote control outlets. That way I can control them from upstairs.

I just aim the remote downstairs to turn a lamp off or on.

i keep most, if not all, of the lights off in areas of the house we are not using at night. i keep one small light on over the sink in the kitchen and there are a number of lights outside of the house that are on.

Don't take this the wrong way but, be grateful that you have him ...trust me, if he wasn't there you would miss him .... let him turn the lights on if he wants & you can turn them off out of love for him ... my husband died in April 2015 & even though he was disabled I miss him.

I want to keep my electric bill as low as possible so there are no lights on in the house except right where I am.  I have occupancy sensors for the lights on the stairs and the hall coming in from the garage.

I mostly just have lights on in the room I'm in.  I hate wasting electricity.  I do have flameless candles scattered around the house for a touch of light and warmth.

I have motion sensor lights in my hallway and both bathrooms for safety.

No.  We have an "open" floor plan so even our limited lighting (floor lamp in great room, microwave light in kitchen, small stained glass lamp in foyer) are visible to the front of the house.

I spend my "electric" money on lighting the OUTSIDE of the house...........Flood lights (moonlight-style receptacles hanging in the trees).    Supposedly, burglars prefer working in the dark.

Re: In the evening, do you turn on the lights in areas you're not using?

The outside lights on the front of the house go on around dusk, or when I remember.   In the house, I'll keep light on near the front door. While I'm getting dinner made, and am back and forth, I'll leave the kitchen light on.  When dinner is over and the dishes are done, we'll have the light over the kitchen sink on while we're still up.  When we go to bed, it goes off and a small nightlight goes on.  Everything else only gets lit if we're going to be in those places, with the exception of our office.  It seems DH and I are back and forth between the office and family room during the evening after dinner.  If either of us are staying up we turn off the family room light when the dog goes to bed.

Our hall light is on 24/7.  My pantry is there and it's really dark in that hall.   I have a lot of motion sensor night lights.
