are there as many gravel/crushed rock/pebble pathways as there seem to be on the British tv programs?

Downton Abbey (Highclere Castle) has a spectacular drive of this material, as we all know.

Narrow streets made of cobblestones.

Money screams; wealth whispers.

Re: If you've lived in England

my brother has one of those drives in England .

Some people say it deters burglars as you can hear footsteps on the gravel .

Re: If you've lived in England

The graveled areas also allow rainwater to drain, which is important in a rainy country. Just a thought. I know the houses in Ireland have their homes ringed in gravel to help keep water away from foundations.

@goldensrbest

I've never even traveled overseas, but I've always been fascinated by the idea of living in another country.

Not to derail this thread, but I'd love it you could share some of the things that make you want to return.

Thanks.

Re: If you've lived in England

Thank you, @SunValley

I've also read that these are practical in England as there is little to no snow.  Apparently, shoveling snow would pick up too much of the gravel and make it impractical.

I love hearing that crunch!
