If doilies are old fashioned, what...

do you suggest using on round glass end tables.  We use our end tables for remotes, coffee cups, plants, etc.  I don't want to put these directly on the glass.  I need something 12" to 15" across and round.  My house is a modern style, but I love antiques.  So I have a mix of modern furniture with antiques here and there.  These will be in our open concept type living/dining/family area.

Thanks for any advice.

I would suggest a trivet.  There are so many kinds available and you can pick something that goes with your decor.

@Lovs2shop  Thanks.  I'll search them.  I always thought of trivets as something that stands up off the table to protect from heat.  I'm not sure what type you are thinking about, but I'll search trivets and see what I can find.

I have had the same beautiful antique oak tables I use as end tables since I got married 33 years ago. I don't care if they are stylish or not , I have doileys under my lamps so they don't scratch the tables, and on my coffee table I have a doiley under a ceramic shell dish for the same reason - to prevent scratches.

Try a "modern day" doily made of natural fabric (like wood or reed), or something made of beads ( I use gold and silver).

I have a flat trivet on my end table by my TV chair,  it comes in handy when I have a beverage.  It has a cork liner underneath so it doesn't stand on "legs"

Re: If doilies are old fashioned, what...

I have several doilies that my maternal grandmother made & I use them around the house for various purposes, like under a basket of hand towels in my bathroom, under a vase on my bedroom dresser, etc.  I don't use them where they might get stained from coffee or similar.

If you don't want to use doilies, why not find some round placemats in colors that you like?

@Lovs2shop  What is the trivet made out of?  Just curious.  Thanks.

At one time I had beautiful placemats on my end tables.  They were round and woven and, honestly, didn't look like placemats.  Pier 1 imports has a great variety as does Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Currently I have decorative plates on each end table.  Again, these don't really look like plates.  They just look like a decoration for the table.  This is where we put our drinks or snacks when we are in the living room.  My tables are clutter free.  I keep remotes and such in a drawer.

Edited to add:  Just because your tables are round, doesn't necessarily mean your placemat/doiley/decoration needs to be round.  Square would work and would add an interesting look.  You could buy a nice fabric, cut it, hem it or finish off the edges to your liking.

I have quite a few glass top tables and I use trivets or cork coasters.  I also find some thin wooden pieces at Pier1and BBB  that I use under lamps.  I rumage around when they are having end of summer sales and usually find these items in the outdoor enteraining area.
