We did rebuild. We bought a run down shack on our favorite up north Michigan lake back in 2000. 7 years ago we had it knocked down and had built a true cottage on a lake. It's lovely. Yellow with white trim, wrap around porch looking out over our lake, cupola w/ weathervane on top. Just this summer we added our corbels to finish off my cottage look. HeartHeartHeart

I would love to see a picture of your lake house.  That's my husband's dream home!

Sorry @ECBG I would have an older smaller stone home. A home that stood for many years and has many stories to tell in each crack, creak, and draft. It must have a Stone fireplace, hardwood floors that groan under foot. Beautiful wrap around porch. Smaller kitchen with modern amenities. A cellar. Musty please. That's character. An attic that you store your treasures in. Cozy and small perfect for me. ❤️

@ECBG   If I had the income to purchase my dream home it would be a "painted lady" -- a Victorian.

Have always, always loved this style.

Mine would be a modern or mid-century modern preferable one level.

@aroc3435

I also love Victorian and that's what we built. But, a brick one complete with 2 story turrett and "Witches Cap" roof.

While I wanted a "Painted Lady" my husband is a brick layer and reminded me that there would be no upkeep with the brick.  That's what we built.

I'm hoping it will be here long after I'm gone...or we'll be like the couple in "Beetlejuice."

For me, anything with no steps.  The home I have now was built in 1922 and I love it but I have to climb 13 steps to get upstairs. And every room is upstairs except the living room.

I would seriously rethink the island.  I hate sitting up there and eating at it.  So it is good for one thing, parking everything that is on its way to its home, or things that don't really have homes.

Well, I know I will never move from this home if DH has anything to say about it.... but if I were to move or build it would be a Craftsman.

I basically like our brick ranch style home with basement & garage. If we built a home I’d prefer something similar with larger rooms with a walkout lower level. I’d love a big front porch, and a large private backyard with a beautiful flower garden. I’ve always liked craftsman homes so I might consider that too.
