Re: Idea For Small Formal Living Room

I'd use a smaller dining table and make the living area bigger.  Unless I had a large family of course.

I think this dining and living room area is very pretty.  I would change the rug and have color on the chairs.  With some minor changes, it would be fine for me.

Not crazy about this.  Don't like the furniture, footstools? or rug.  It's hard to tell, not seeing the whole room, but I think I would put a love seat across from the fireplace and comfy chairs on either side, lamps, small tables.  This seems so blocked off from the dining room......a maze to get there.

@jubilant   It looks like no one uses it.  Not really that formal, but, not inviting.

I love the green on the stools and pillows. I adore the fireplace and over all look of the room. But on the practicality side those chairs wouldn’t work for me and mine

It's not a bad looking space but it hardly screams 'comfortable'. Unless there's more real estate up front in the living area than we're seeing, I'd be tempted to mix up the rooms functions, given the dining area actually looks wider and roomier. Since they're open to each other anyway, there's no reason the room's purposes couldn't intermingle, especially if one were willing to get rid of the large dining pieces and replace them with something more appropriate to the scale of the available space. I somehow doubt that a table for six is used every day, but of course it's possible that it is. It might also be interesting to see how the furniture might be arranged east to west rather than north to south or at least arranged in a less linear fashion.

Strange taste.  The benches and rug have got to go.  The pillows do not match with anything.  I would place an apt. size sofa on the wall and have a side table next to it with a lamp.  Then I would purchase one comfortable chair with ottoman that would be on one size of sofa.  If there is enough room (I hate crowding) I would place an apt. size coffee table in front of the sofa.

This space does not appeal to me.

I don't know why but it reminds me of The Golden Girls...I think it looks uncomfortable and dated.

Four different flower arrangements? Seems like a lot too me.

I don't care for the starburst above the fireplace. Seems a bit outdated IMO.
