INDIA HICKS' BREEZY LIVING ROOM

Warmer weather draws me to the rooms of designer India Hicks.  Granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten, daughter of design legend David Hicks, she has a sure hand with rooms that never look pretentious or fussy.  (Fun trivia-- as a child she was one Princess Diana's little bridesmaids).

This living room is from her house, which I think is romantically called "Hibiscus Hill".  I love the fact that it's stripped-down, feminine, and sleepily tropical all at once.

Her Bahamian sensibility at work?

Anyway, it has a lot of things I like-- unexpected bits of color; faded sketches and prints; shutters; an outsize ottoman plunked down in a quirky spot; cool, bare polished floors; stacks of books; a tray ceiling; both symmetry and assymetry; and a leafy, "frondy" feel of outdoors:

This image came out unexpectedly small;  but if you google India Hicks you can see more of her pretty rooms in easier-to-see sizes....

I don't care for the white Parson tables; they look like something from Wal-Mart's garden department.  The rest is very crisp, cool and breezy tropical.

@Oznell  I like the room as it looks airy and comfortable.   I do agree with @Kachina624 about the white parsons tables.  They need to go.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

@Oznell  I think it's a beautiful room, but stripped down, I don't think that's it.  It looks busy to me.  But I would love to live there.

Oh, my, I really like her dining room as well.  That bleached feeling, and all those textures!

@Oznell

It's a very nice light, airy room.  Love the shuttered windows, shiplap tray ceiling & colors.

However, it's a bit too crowded with furniture & accessories. & I'm not a fan of the ornate fireplace.

Beautiful.  It's layered but not cluttered and it's very soothing.

My house is layered and I have been trying to declutter and parting with some of my nicer things makes me sad but my children do not want them.
