I'm making a rag quilt

[ Edited ]

I'm at the snipping point. My fingers are getting numb.My thumb appears to have a permanent dent where the scissors rest on it. It's for a baby girl scheduled to be born via c section next wed. I wonder if this is a good hand therapy?

Before anyone asks - rag quilts are made by piecing together strips of fabric - usually flannel- then snipping the seams and washing it  to make them fringe - also all the way around the outer edges.Normally the strips of fabric are 3" wide but I thought I'd save myself some time and work by making mine 4" - I think I actually like it better.

I made a rag quilt out of flannel plaids and appliquéd leaves on the squares.  It's one of my better efforts but I haven't done another one.

I'm glad this one is almost finished. It will be a while before I make another.

My DIL has made some of the rag baby quilts, and they are darling.  I'm sure your recipient will be happy!

@151949

I just checked out a tuitorial on line, as I have heard of these but forgotten how they're done. Your recipient will be very pleased. I have been itching to sew, so this project looks perfect for the winter months.

I have 2 other projects pending once this is done -a small quilted table runner in browns and beiges with some burgundy in it to totally match my room. It was a kit - can't wait to do it. And I am doing a rather complicated cross stitch of a mermaid that I will make into a pieced pillow when done so I have the fabric for that - it will be a while though - I worked on the cross stitch all summer and only got a little bit done as it is very tedious.It has a lot of teals and reds but also a lot of beiges,ivory and flesh colors.It was difficult on the eyes to sew as there wasn't a lot of variation in the color.

We went over to a town in Ohio called Charm. They have a fabulous quilting store there - takes up 2 buildings! Just makes you want to sew.

I made a rag quilt using large squares - easy to do just a lot of snipping!!
