NO
No, but nor would I feel flattered. I would have to face the fact that the item was for sale in a store and could be purchased by anyone, it was not exclusively mine nor considered plagiarism...bugger.

No, you're not. (a beeotch)
For me, it depends on *the who, the what and the why*.

@QVCkitty1 I think I would let it go BUT it would likely affect my relationship with this person. I would certainly no longer discuss my decorating plans and sources for shopping with her.
Did she tell you about the purchase or did you find out from someone else? I would be a bit more forgiving if she told me, even after her purchase.

Usually people who do this don't have confidence with making their own choices.
You certainly don't want to see your friend dressing like you or seeing your decor in her house. She must think highly of you, wants to be like you, so what you like is far better than anything she would choose,
I'd say she has low self-esteem, a self confidence problem. Not sure if it's something you want to do, but you could help her develop her own style. That would certainly help her with self-worth.

No.

Oh gosh, that is a lot of psychoanalyzing! Low self-esteem? No confidence? No self worth?
It could just be the other person LOVED it! Maybe decorating isn't her gift?
Someone a while ago posted pictures on the boards of their new home just built. I loved the rug and she was kind enough to even tell me where to get it!
I bought it and it is perfect, just what I was looking for and couldn't find.
While I don't even know this person, I greatly appreciated her info and hope she wouldn't be offended or mad that I bought it too! I assure you I have none of the issues listed above!

Yes, it would bother me. I don't like copycats. You work hard to get your home looking a certain way - with your signature on it - and then, bam, someone else's home looks the same exact way. I think it's rude, especially if you share the same friends who will be seeing both.
I also don't like it when people copy clothing ideas. If you work at the same place, you run the risk of showing up to work looking like twins if you don't coordinate who is wearing The Outfit on a certain day. If I'm ever out shopping and I see something that someone I work with owns and wears, I leave it on the rack. I don't like to copy people.

I think if someone is going to do that, they should at least give you a heads up that that's what they're planning on doing.
It would bother me a little bit.

Thank you for all of your opinions. I don't want to write too much because I don't know if this person reads these boards and I wouldn't want to hurt her feelings.
It wasn't an "item" that was copied, it was a concept. To achieve this concept there are probably a thousand different product choices, but the product chosen was mine. It is very distinctive in my house.
I appreciate the views of all who chimed in, and even the "psychoanalysis" ones because they are not too far off base. LOL.
What will happen is I will be peessed for a while, then get over it, and just let it go. I don't hold grudges. I came here, beeched about it, and now it's time to move on. The thing is I wasn't just angry, I was kind of hurt. However, in the grand scheme of things with all that is going on in the world it is all very insignificant. So thank you all for your thoughts on this and for even just taking the time to think about it.

I would not be annoyed at all. If I enjoy doing something and would do it regardless of positive or negative feedback, and if I willingly shared my results with someone, I would consider it a compliment if they liked it enough to copy it.
Now, if it were my profession, I suppose I would have to protect my "work product" in order to offer it for compensation.
