I have many nice things (at least I think so) but my daughters want NONE of it. I have grandmothers things, mothers things. Old antique things, etc. It is just junk to them.
You are absolutely correct!!!

I just took another car load of "stuff" and dropped off. I donate everything to a handishop, they employ handicapped persons and run a re-sale shop of things donated. I have made many trips there in the last few years. I have more trips to make, but I am narrowing things down, bit by bit. Feels good, and don't want to leave that huge job for my children someday when I am gone.

When my husband cleaned out the basement last year, he had other intentions in his mind. It is now a man cave, all paneled, a pool table, 2 juke boxes, 3 big arcade games, dart board, and a bar table with stools. It does look nice I have to admit and it keeps him out of my hair haha.

If your daughters don't want those things why not consider selling them now to people who will like them, rather than your kids trashing them in the future. If you want to declutter now.
Some people like antiques or older things and some don't

Good for him! I've found that with projects like that the hardest part is getting started. Sometimes I have to walk away a few times before I force myself to dive in. After about an hour, the momentum starts and it's hard to stop! It's a wonderful feeling when you're done and can look at a clean, clear space. There have been times that I've regretted giving something up, but I remind myself that for every regret, there's probably at least 100 other items that went out with it that I will never miss, so overall it's a good thing.

What a great way to start the new year - good for you! Keep up the good work, I know it can be daunting.

If you possibly can, get rid of junk in that that will never be used again. It isn't fair to you. It is hard enough to deal with your own stuff.
Right now, I am trying to let go of BOOKS!
I enjoy reading, and have shared many books with others. I donated many books to our church library, small town library, and now use mostly a kindle.

As a matter of fact, we just moved DH's elderly mother into a nursing home and find ourselves storing all of her stuff from her old suite in an assisted living place. We have to clean out some of our un-needed stuff to make room for her un-needed stuff. Right now there's more clutter than ever all over our upstairs.
I have been in your situation as well. My sister and I did a garage sale after Mom was in the home for a while and we knew she would not return. I am sentimental, but mostly pictures, that we need to work on. If you can take one small room and work on that, it gives a sense of accomplishment, and an area to retreat to. Best wishes, this has been a long time coming, and many discussions for us.
