Right now, I am trying to let go of BOOKS!

Have you looked into online swapping?

http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php

Please Note: the following Help information is about our swapping club for used books. In addition to the club for swapping used books, we also have a Market in which you can buy NEW books at a discount. You can read about the Market in I sent my lost book with DC and the email says I didn't!.

How the Club Works

You have books in good condition that you do not want to keep.

After you have Posted the first 10 books to your bookshelf, you get 2 "startup" credits from PBS to get you started swapping. After that, you earn credits by sending out books to others. Only the first account for a household receives startup credits.

You may order any available book for 1 credit each (paperback/hardcover). audio books cost 2 credits each.

If you want a book that is not currently available, you can place it on your Wish List and we will notify you by email when it is available for you to order. You can even have it sent to you automatically when it becomes available, with no email necessary.

When a book is requested from you, we notify you by email, provide the address for you to send it out, and even provide a wrapper!

wrap and mail your book.

When the requestor receives it, you earn 1 credit (2 if it is an audio book). Yes, you pay the postage to send out your books, but when you request a book, the sender ships it to you free of charge!

The books you receive from PBS are yours. We hope that you will repost them to share with other members when you have read them, but you can certainly keep them, or give them away. Similarly, the books you send out to others belong to their new owners.

PBS is a great way to share books with people all over the country!

Here is another option I just found and used recently as I didn't want to post anymore on PBS or Amazon

http://www.betterworldbooks.com/go/donate it its a box where you can donate books, they are either sold or donated. In my area libraries have the dropboxes.

Good luck to you and your DH casuallady, this is so hard to do.

DH and I have been trying to do this a little at a time. It is very important to do tho and so many people don't think of doing it. Because when you pass away, it is up to your children or other relatives to do this and it is an overwhelming job! I do not want to leave the burden on our children to have to do this.

I can't tell you how many friends of mine, found after their elderly parents died, an attic or basement filled with decades of stuff, they had to go through. This is emotionally draining and time consuming for anyone to do. I hope we can finish ours before the end of the year. that is our goal, we are going to do it a little at a time, when DH has time off work and I can help him.

We had to do this and living 4 and 8 hours away it was as you say very difficult and not something I want to leave to my kids

Re: Hubby is cleaning the basement ! ! !

Hubby just hauled a giant trash can full of stuff to the curb. Now to get the next load ready. Hubby is watching football. He will and I am motivated.

I forgot to mention that our daughter and family live across country in California. Our son and wife have 2 little ones and jobs, so why would I want to leave them with our clutter. I am so happy we are making progress.

Re: Hubby is cleaning the basement ! ! !

I got the decluttering train rolling here last year, and it's still going strong. Once we started letting go of things, it has been so much easier to keep throwing out, and not bring new stuff in. This is the first year in a long time that there are NO holiday catalogs still in this house. I looked at them when they arrived, then put them in a bag to go out at the end of the week--they were not allowed to hang around and take up space. I am more aware of my things now, and when I find something I don't need anymore, or has not been used in a very long time, it gets tossed. I love the feeling of letting stuff go and creating more space within my home. Best wishes to all who are working on this issue!

We have another huge trash can full and we don't have a pickup until next Tuesday. One section of basement has a huge amount ready to go. We need to have someone come and haul out a treadmill, weightbench, recliner, rocker, large braided rug,... We don't seem to be making a dent, since hubby has been a packrat. He has a wall of wooden shelves built, that he has filled most of them with hunting stuff, sentimentals. He still needs to go thru fishing stuff, and leather craft stuff. I am frustrated. I want it to be done, and I know it is an ongoing massive project for him. After it is totally cleaned out we would like to tear down shelves and get some moveable more attractive ones. Also want to clean and paint walls and floors. We probably need to move in less than 3 years, meanwhile I want to get back to fitness, weight watchers and some travel. We also watch grandkids 2-3 days a week.

Not sure what you are saying, nothing is wrong, just growing a little impatient.
