@SeaMaiden All I know about this that taveling goups of shysters and thieves make a racket of top coating and "repairing" driveways and spray painting barns, etc.   They just patch things up with inferior materials and take a lot of money for a shoddy job that won't last.

It is a recurring problem in the state I live in and other states and is well documented and there are lots of news stories you see about people who are taken for thousands of dollars.

So be VERY careful and check on the background of anyone you deal with!  The BBB and your state's attorney generals office are good places to start.

You can also check Angie's List.

Look for a SEALER OF DRIVEWAYS by checking your local yellow pages or Google (put in name of your town).  I do mine every 3 - 4 years and just had my double wide driveway done - they first  fill in all the cracks and then apply a thin coat of blacktop fluid.  Don't drive on driveway for 3 days or longer for hot humid rainy weather.  Cost:  Just over $100 plus tax here.  3 guys

You didn't say if your driveway is made from concrete or black top.  The price and the results are different for each.

Re: How much $$$ to fill in the cracks in your driveway?

Thanks everyone for your great  suggestions... I did go to angies list and will call around.  I really would like to replace the driveway( concrete)    or upgrade it to something really nice rather than concrete. Probably looking at between 7-10 thousand dollars depending on materials chosen.   fixing the cracks is not really what I want to do...

 Just  need to get Husband in on the decision... he is one of those who would do nothing  to fix things around the house....    he is NOT A DOER..... I am the fixer upper person!. Smiley Happy

 Need to think on this.    And yes... they will be a  BBB approved  company not a fly by night one!

@SeaMaiden

We live in PA and have a macadam driveway.  We had it repaired (cracks filled in) and sealed in June.  Cost:  $135.00.  Many of the cracks are caused by tree roots.

Re: How much $$$ to fill in the cracks in your driveway?

We have a concrete driveway.  My DH fixed the cracks by removing the loose debris, then putting in some putty type concrete fix.  It has held up well.

Last year, I went out and went over everything and fixed a few new cracks.  I think a can of that putty concrete fix was around $20. It also came in a squeeze type tube....like toothpaste if you are not comfortable using a putty knife.

it's best to fill them in if you live in an area that has winter freezes.  If water gets into and under the cracks, it will expand when frozen and make matters a whole lot worse.

I wish I could give you more advice that is  locally appropriate to your area and the size of your driveway (which is a really important piece of info), but  if you have a small surface to cover, I can suggest you look into "granite-like"  surface coatings from companies that offer to fix your garage floor, or pool surrounds or sidewalks, etc.

We have paid for these coatings at our old house and  recently at our new one in the garage, on the back porch and front porch.   We absolutely have been  satisfied  with these high-tech coatings and would recommend those coatings to anyone--provided you find the "right" company to install them.

If you have a very long asphalt driveway, like we had at our previous house, you need to call a reputable asphalt company that gets decent local reviews.  No such coating lasts forever, but it can help.

I've watched neighbors repair their own driveways. My guess is that kits are available and a handyman might be able to do the job.
